Abstract
The phenomenon of infidelity among celebrities, which has become increasingly common in recent years and described as an act that is universally forbidden yet universally practice, raises a major question: what is in the back of cheater’s mind? This study investigates the underlying motivations of the individuals who commit extradyadic infidelity through the Investment Model of Commitment which examines three key components in romantic relationships: satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investment level. Adopting a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological design, the study involved five participants (two women and three men) aged between 21-22, all of whom had previous experiences with infidelity. The results reveal that participants generally reported vague dissatisfaction and quality of alternatives, while demonstrating a clear investment level in their relationships. Emotional factors primarily motivated infidelity among female participants, while sexual factors were more prominent among male participants. The study also uncovered novel insight regarding a different perceptions of attraction experienced by two individuals. Kata kunci : Infidelity, motives, romantic relationship, commitment, extradyadic Fenomena perselingkuhan di kalangan selebritis yang marak terjadi beberapa tahun terakhir dan disebut sebagai kegiatan yang secara universal dilarang namun secara universal dipraktikkan memunculkan pertanyaan besar apa motivasi dibalik perselingkuhan. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan motivasi pelaku perselingkuhan di luar hubungan pernikahan (ekstradiadik). menggunakan Investment Model of Commitment dan menggambarkan masing-masing kepuasan, kualitas alternatif, dan level investasi subjek dalam hubungan romantis. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari dua perempuan dan tiga laki-laki berusia 21-22 tahun dan pernah memiliki pengalaman berselingkuh sebelumnya. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa setiap subjek memiliki ketidakpuasan dan kualitas alternatif yang samar dan level investasi yang jelas. Motivasi perselingkuhan pada perempuan didasari oleh faktor emosional sedangkan pada laki-laki cenderung dilandasi oleh faktor seksual. Ditemukan pula pengetahuan baru adanya perbedaan persepsi ketertarikan yang dialami oleh dua subjek. Kata kunci : Perselingkuhan, motivasi, hubungan romantis, komitmen, ekstradiadik
