Abstract

This design project aims to create gothic-style women's accessories with an elegant touch through a mix material approach, particularly by utilizing black coral as an alternative to gemstones. The variables studied include elements of gothic aesthetics (symbols, forms, colors), the potential of black coral as a local organic material, and user preferences for symbolic and expressive accessories. The sample consists of five types of accessory products: necklace, ring, bracelet, earrings, and brooch. The sampling technique used was purposive, considering the characteristics of target users who are interested in alternative fashion styles and visual symbolism. The data analysis method employed a qualitative approach through literature studies, visual observation of reference products, material exploration, and design evaluation via exhibition. The results indicate that the combination of black coral and metals such as sterling silver produces a strong, exotic gothic visual character with cultural value. Symbols such as coffins, bat wings, and crescent moons were used as primary design elements to strengthen the narrative. The conclusion of this Morthera design project demonstrates the creation of accessories with a distinctive visual identity, blending the power of subcultural aesthetics with local values, and receiving positive responses from exhibition visitors. These products have the potential to serve as alternatives in the fashion industry that emphasize personal expression and diversity of design meaning. Keywords: gothic accessories, black coral, symbolism, mix material, contemporary design Perancangan ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan aksesori wanita bergaya gothic dengan sentuhan elegan melalui pendekatan mix material, khususnya penggunaan akar bahar sebagai alternatif batu permata. Variabel yang diteliti meliputi unsur estetika gaya gothic (simbol, bentuk, warna), potensi akar bahar sebagai material organik lokal, serta preferensi pengguna terhadap aksesori yang bersifat simbolik dan ekspresif. Sampel dalam penelitian berupa lima jenis produk aksesori, yaitu kalung, cincin, gelang, anting, dan bros. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposive, dengan mempertimbangkan karakteristik target pengguna yang memiliki ketertarikan terhadap gaya alternatif dan simbolisme visual. Metode analisis data menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui studi literatur, observasi visual terhadap produk referensi, eksplorasi material, serta evaluasi desain melalui kegiatan pameran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi akar bahar dan logam seperti sterling silver mampu menghasilkan karakter visual gothic yang kuat, eksotis, serta memiliki nilai budaya. Simbol peti mati, sayap kelelawar, dan bulan sabit digunakan sebagai elemen utama untuk memperkuat pesan desain. Kesimpulan dari perancangan Morthera ini, menciptakan aksesori dengan identitas visual yang khas, memadukan kekuatan estetika subkultur dengan nilai lokal, dan mendapat respon positif dari pengunjung pameran. Produk ini berpotensi menjadi alternatif dalam industri mode yang mengedepankan ekspresi personal dan keberagaman makna desain.
