Abstract

During the last five years, the number of work accidents in the chemical industry has increased significantly. This increase can threaten the sustainability of business in the chemical industry. To control the potential hazard of accidents, it is necessary to improve safety performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of safety performance on business sustainability, which is strengthened by management control as a moderating variable. Quantitative methods with a systematic random sampling technique have been used by selecting certain individuals from the entire population. To answer the research, respondents were asked to answer a questionnaire and 132 respondents gave answers. Statistical analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM analysis tool version 3.0. The results found that safety performance had a positive and significant effect on business sustainability and management control as moderation variables strengthened this influence. The employees' commitment to safety rules and prioritizing safety in all activities is the most desired thing by workers. In the end, the researcher suggests future research incorporating government support as a moderating variable. Remarkably, this study's conceptual model offers a novelty built by the researcher, which can provide a new perception of the triple bottom line theory developed by previous researchers. Keywords: safety plan, safety behavior, safety culture, safety climate, safety performance, management control, business sustainability Selama lima tahun terakhir angka kecelakaan kerja pada sektor indutsri kimia di Provinsi Banten mengalami peningkatan, peningkatan angka kecelakaan kerja dapat mengancam keberlanjutan usaha pada industri kimia, untuk mengendalikan potensi bahaya kecelakaan diperlukan peningkatan kinerja keselamatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh safety performance terhadap business sustainability yang diperkuat oleh management control sebagai variabel moderasi. Metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan teknik systematic random sampling yaitu dengan melakukan pemilihan individu atau anggota tertentu dari seluruh populasi telah digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Untuk menjawab tujuan penelitian, responden diminta untuk menjawab kuisioner yang diberikan oleh peneliti dan terdapat 132 responden dari 156 populasi penelitian yang memberikan jawaban kemudian hasilnya diuji menggunakan alat analisis PLS-SEM versi 3.0. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa safety performance secara positif dan signifikan mempengaruhi business sustainability dan management control sebagai variabel moderasi memperkuat pengaruh tersebut, komitmen karyawan terhadap aturan keselamatan dan menjadikan keselamatan sebagai prioritas didalam melakukan semua aktivitas juga merupakan hal yang paling diinginkan oleh pekerja. Penerapan keselamatan kerja di tempat kerja melalui penilaian safety performance merupakan hal yang sangat penting untuk dilaksanakan karena hal tersebut terbukti dapat mempengaruhi business sustainability khususnya pada sektor industri kimia dan secara garis besar, penelitian ini menghasilkan model business sustainability bagi industri kimia.
