Abstract
This study aims to analyze the relationship between Self-Compassion and stress among inmates at Class IIA Correctional Facility in Tangerang. Self-Compassion is the attitude of accepting oneself with understanding and without judgment, while stress is a psychological response to pressure that can disrupt an individual's wellbeing. This research employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The sample consisted of 310 inmates selected through accidental sampling. Stress was measured using the stress subscale of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21) by Lovibond and Lovibond (1995), while Self-Compassion was assessed using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) by Neff (2003). Based on hypothesis testing using Spearman Correlation, the results indicated a significant negative relationship between Self-Compassion and stress among inmates at Class IIA Correctional Facility in Tangerang, meaning that the higher the level of SelfCompassion an inmate possesses, the lower their level of stress (r = -0.207, p < 0.05). An aspect analysis revealed that self-kindness and mindfulness had a significant negative relationship with stress, while over-identification showed a positive correlation with stress. Furthermore, the results of the difference test showed significant differences in stress levels based on age and sentence duration, as well as differences in Self-Compassion based on sentence duration.
