Abstract
Puteri Indonesia adalah representasi Indonesia di hadapan publik internasional melalui sebuah kompetisi ratu kecantikan. Membawa misi untuk mempromosikan pariwisata Indonesia membuat para puteri harus menjalankan tugasnya sebagai public relations. Tidak hanya sekedar menjadi juru bicara, para puteri harus menjalankan fungsi-fungsi public relations untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui fungsi public relations pada Puteri Indonesia dalam mempromosikan pariwisata Indonesia di ajang beauty pageant internasional serta mengetahui kendala/hambatan yang dihadapi Puteri Indonesia sebagai public relations dalam mempromosikan pariwisata Indonesia di ajang beauty pageant internasional. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Edward L. Bernay yang dikutip oleh Ruslan yang menjelaskan fungsi informasi, persuasi, dan mensinergikan antara publik internal dan eksternal. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis dengan metode deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara dan observasi serta literatur. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa seluruh fungsi public relations telah dilakukan oleh Puteri Indonesia namun tidak menyeluruh pada rangkaian proses keikutsertaan mereka di kompetisi beauty pageant internasional. Puteri Indonesia is a representation of Indonesia before the international public through a beauty queen competition. Carrying a mission to promote Indonesian tourism makes the princesses have to carry out their duties as public relations. Not just being a spokesperson, the princesses must carry out public relations functions to achieve that goal. The purpose of this study is to find out the function of public relations at the Puteri Indonesia in promoting Indonesian tourism in the international beauty pageant event and to know the obstacles faced by the Puteri Indonesia as public relations in promoting Indonesian tourism at the international beauty pageant competition.. This study uses the theory of Edward L. Bernay, quoted by Ruslan, which explains the function of information, persuasion, and synergy between internal and external publics. This research is qualitative research using a constructivist paradigm with a descriptive method. Data collection is done through interviews and observations and literature. The results of this study indicate that all functions of public relations have been carried out by the Puteri Indonesia but are not exhaustive in the process of their participation in international beauty pageant competition.
