Abstract
Indonesia has great potential in wind energy, but its development needs to be improved to benefit the community, especially in remote areas. The main challenge lies in the design and manufacture of optimal wind turbines for Indonesian geographical conditions with relatively low wind speeds. This research examines the performance development of the design of a four-bladed pyramidical Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). Field tests were conducted at Muara Baru Dam, North Jakarta. This experiment was conducted with and without a 1:50 planetary gearbox. Turbine performance was evaluated based on measured parameters such as wind speed, turbine rotational speed, voltage and current values, and torque values, and also analyzed the Power Coefficient (Cp), Torque Coefficient (Ct), and Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) as non-dimensional parameters. From the field test results at the highest wind speed of 5.0 m/s, the following values were obtained, Field tests using a planetary gearbox resulted in measured parameter values of 34.60 V voltage, 1.09 A current, and 15.07 Nm torque, at a turbine speed of 16.70 RPM, and without using a planetary gearbox, the voltage was 14.84 V, the current was 0.40 A, and the torque was 2.58 Nm at a turbine speed of 27.84 RPM. And the values of nondimensional parameters using a planetary gearbox were the power coefficient (Cp) of 0.2955, the torque coefficient (Ct) of 0.3194, and the Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) of 0.9250, while the system without using a planetary gearbox had a power coefficient (Cp) of 0.0470, a torque coefficient (Ct) of 0.0549, and a Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) of 0.8565. Keywords: Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT); Planetary Gearbox; Power Coefficient (Cp); Torque Coefficient (Ct); Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam energi angin, namun pengembangannya perlu ditingkatkan agar dapat dimanfaatkan bagi masyarakat terutama didaerah terpencil. Tantangan utama terletak pada desain dan pembuatan turbin angin yang optimal pada kondisi geografis Indonesia dengan kecepatan angin yang relatif rendah. Penelitian ini mengkaji kinerja pengembangan desain TASV (Turbin Angin Sumbu Vertikal) empat bilah limas. Pengujian dilakukan di lapangan (field test) di Tanggul Muara Baru, Jakarta Utara. Eksperimen ini dilakukan dengan dan tanpa planetary gearbox dengan perbandingan 1:50. Kinerja turbin dievaluasi berdasarkan parameter terukur seperti kecepatan angin, kecepatan putaran turbin, nilai tegangan dan arus listrik dan nilai torsi, juga menganalisis Koefisien Daya (Cp), Koefisien Torsi (Ct) dan Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) sebagai parameter tidak terukur (non-dimensional). Dari hasil pengujian di lapangan pada kecepatan angin tertinggi yaitu 5,0 m/s, didapat nilai nilai sebagai berikut, Uji lapangan menggunakan planetary gearbox nilai nilai parameter terukur yaitu tegangan sebesar 34,60 V, nilai arus 1,09 A, dan nilai torsi 15,07 N.m, pada kecepatan turbin 16,70 RPM, dan tanpa menggunakan planetary gearbox tegangan sebesar 14,84 V, nilai arus 0,40 A, dan nilai torsi 2,58 N.m pada kecepatan turbin 27,84 RPM. Sedangkan nilai nilai parameter tidak terukur dengan menggunakan planetary gearbox yaitu nilai koefisien daya (Cp) sebesar 0,2955, koefisien torsi (Ct) sebesar 0,3194, dan Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) sebesar 0,9250, sedangkan sistem tanpa menggunakan planetary gearbox yaitu nilai koefisien daya (Cp) sebesar 0,0470, koefisien torsi (Ct) sebesar 0,0549, dan Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) sebesar 0,8565.
