Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sacralization of the myth of prohibiting going out of the house at dusk as depicted in the film Waktu Maghrib using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This research employs content analysis methods with a constructivist paradigm through qualitative research. The variables studied include the representation of the myth of prohibiting going out at dusk, analyzed through the film’s visual, narrative, and symbolic elements. The sample consists of all scenes in the film Waktu Maghrib relevant to the research theme. Sampling was conducted purposively, focusing on scenes that explicitly or implicitly portray the myth. Data was collected through observation and documentation techniques, where the researcher conducted an in-depth examination of signs reflecting the myth. Data analysis was carried out using Roland Barthes' semiotic model, which includes the stages of analyzing denotation, connotation, and myth to interpret the meanings embedded in the film. The findings reveal that the film Waktu Maghrib represents the myth of prohibiting going out at dusk as a sacred narrative reinforced by the use of visual symbols and narrative elements that create a mystical atmosphere. The conclusion of this research is that the sacralization of the myth in the film Waktu Maghrib not only maintains the relevance of traditional beliefs in society's culture but also provides new interpretative spaces for the myth in a modern context. These findings offer insights into how films can act as a medium of social construction that reflects cultural values through semiotic elements. Keywords: film, semiotics, myth, Roland Barthes, sacralization Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sakralisasi mitos larangan keluar rumah saat petang dalam film Waktu Maghrib menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis konten dengan paradigma penelitian konstruktivis melalui jenis penelitian kualitatif. Variabel yang diteliti meliputi representasi mitos larangan keluar rumah saat petang, yang dianalisis melalui elemen-elemen visual, naratif, dan simbolik dalam film tersebut. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan adalah seluruh adegan dalam film Waktu Maghrib yang relevan dengan tema penelitian ini. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposive, dengan fokus pada adegan yang menampilkan mitos tersebut secara eksplisit maupun implisit. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi dan dokumentasi, di mana peneliti melakukan pengamatan mendalam terhadap tanda-tanda yang mencerminkan mitos tersebut. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mencakup tahap analisis denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos untuk menafsirkan makna yang terkandung dalam film. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film Waktu Maghrib merepresentasikan mitos larangan keluar rumah saat petang sebagai narasi sakral yang diperkuat oleh penggunaan simbol-simbol visual dan elemen naratif yang menciptakan atmosfer mistis. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa sakralisasi mitos dalam film Waktu Maghrib tidak hanya mempertahankan relevansi keyakinan tradisional dalam budaya masyarakat, tetapi juga memberikan ruang interpretasi baru terhadap mitos tersebut dalam konteks modern. Interpretasi dari hasil ini memberikan wawasan tentang bagaimana film dapat berperan sebagai media konstruksi sosial yang merefleksikan nilai-nilai budaya melalui elemen semiotik.
