Abstract
This study was motivated by the need to understand the relationship between anxiety and English learning achievement among students in the TOEFL Preparation class at Language Institution X across Jabodetabek. Based on initial observations, there were indications that students' anxiety levels might affect their learning outcomes, especially in the context of the TOEFL exam. In response, the researcher conducted a correlational study aimed to: (1) Determine the relationship between anxiety and students' English learning achievement, and (2) Identify the extent to which anxiety affects students' TOEFL scores. This research was conducted on students in the TOEFL Preparation class at Language Institution X across Jabodetabek, with a total of 158 respondents. The study measured two main variables: anxiety (as the independent variable) and English learning achievement, represented by TOEFL scores (as the dependent variable). The results showed that there was no significant relationship between anxiety and English learning achievement, with a very low correlation value that was statistically insignificant. This indicates that anxiety is not a key determining factor in English learning achievement among students in the TOEFL Preparation class at Language Institution X across Jabodetabek. Based on these findings, it is recommended that educators consider other factors that may have a greater impact on learning outcomes, such as teaching methods, motivation, and social support in TOEFL Preparation classes. Kata Kunci: anxiety, learning achievement, TOEFL Preparation, correlationalresearch Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh kebutuhan untuk memahami hubungan antara kecemasan dan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas TOEFL Preparation di Lembaga Bahasa X Jakarta. Berdasarkan observasi awal, terdapat indikasi bahwa tingkat kecemasan siswa dapat mempengaruhi hasil belajar mereka, khususnya dalam konteks ujian TOEFL. Untuk merespons hal tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian korelasional yang bertujuan untuk: (1) Mengetahui hubungan antara kecemasan dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa, dan (2) Mengidentifikasi seberapa besar pengaruh kecemasan terhadap skor TOEFL siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas TOEFL Preparation di Lembaga Bahasa X Jakarta dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 158 siswa. Penelitian ini mengukur dua variabel utama yaitu kecemasan (sebagai variabel independen) dan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris yang diwakili oleh skor TOEFL (sebagai variabel dependen). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan signifikan antara kecemasan dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa, dengan nilai korelasi yang sangat rendah dan tidak signifikan secara statistik. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kecemasan bukanlah faktor penentu utama dalam pencapaian prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas TOEFL Preparation di Lembaga Bahasa X Jakarta. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, direkomendasikan agar pendidik memperhatikan faktor-faktor lain yang mungkin lebih berpengaruh terhadap prestasi belajar, seperti metode pengajaran, motivasi, dan dukungan sosial dalam pembelajaran TOEFL Preparation.
