Abstract

The primary challenge in enhancing the income of farmers in remote rural areas is related to the marketing strategies of agricultural products, particularly those with a short shelf life, such as olive leaves Theese challenges involve limitations in infrastructure and dependence on weather factors, causing farmers' bargaining power to weaken. The drying process is key to improving the quality and durability of agricultural products, using a rotary dryer machine as an effective method. However, the use of environmentally friendly heat sources such as solar energy is still limited in the context of olive leaf drying. This study aims to design a heating system for the rotary dryer machine using solar panel technology. The design process utilizes the Double Diamond Method, providing a systematic design thinking approach involving the stages of discovery, definition, development, and delivery. The design outcome achieves an efficient heater configuration using 2 Tubular Finned Heaters and 1 Solar Panel (100 WP) to meet the heating power requirements of 206.14 watts for olive leaf drying, aligning with sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions in the agricultural product drying industry. Keywords: Olive Leaf Tea, Drying, Solar Energy, Tubular Finned Heater, Solar Panels Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh tantangan pemasaran produk pertanian Daun Zaitun di daerah pedesaan terpencil yang memengaruhi pendapatan petani, khususnya pada produk dengan masa simpan singkat. Kendala tersebut melibatkan keterbatasan infrastruktur dan ketergantungan pada faktor cuaca, menyebabkan daya tawar petani menjadi lemah. Proses pengeringan menjadi kunci untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan daya tahan produk pertanian, dengan penggunaan mesin rotary dryer sebagai metode yang efektif. Namun, penggunaan sumber panas ramah lingkungan seperti energi matahari masih terbatas dalam konteks pengeringan daun zaitun. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang sistem pemanas pada mesin rotary dryer yang menggunakan teknologi solar panel. Perancangan menggunakan Metode Double Diamond dengan memberikan pendekatan desain berbasis design thinking yang sistematis, melibatkan tahapan discover, define, develop, dan deliver. Hasil perancangan mencapai desain heater efisien dengan menggunakan elemen pemanas Tubular Finned Heater sejumlah 2 buah dan Solar Panel 100 WP sejumlah 1 buah untuk memenuhi kebutuhan daya pemanas 206.14 watt pada pengeringan daun zaitun, sejalan dengan memberikan solusi berkelanjutan dan ramah lingkungan dalam industri pengeringan produk pertanian.
