Abstract

Computer networks are an important necessity for human life to carry out the process of exchanging data between computers, both within the agency and outside the agency. However, security is still a major problem, namely the possibility of information leakage or the threat of data theft by irresponsible people. One way to answer all these problems is to use a Virtual Point Network (VPN). VPN is a way to send data securely over the internet. The data is encrypted to maintain its security and confidentiality, so it is safe even through the internet network. The process of sending this data through what is referred to as tunneling, which is a way to transfer data from one network to another confidentially using the internet. There are two types of protocols that can be chosen to use VPN, namely PPTP and L2TP. This research intends to analyze the comparison of PPTP and L2TP VPNs to determine the performance of the two protocols. The author will create a test scenario using a proxy router using the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application and the wirehshark application with Quality of Control (QoS) parameters consisting of Delay, Throughtput and Packet Loss. The comparison results are obtained to determine the performance of each VPN protocol. Keywords: PPTP, L2TP, PPDIOO, QoS Jaringan komputer merupakan suatu kebutuhan penting untuk kehidupan manusia guna melakukan proses pertukaran data antar komputer, baik dalam instansi maupun di luar instansi. Namun, keamanan masih menjadi masalah utama, yaitu adanya kemungkinan kebocoran informasi atau ancaman pencurian data oleh orang yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Salah satu cara menjawab semua permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan Virtual Point Network (VPN). VPN adalah cara untuk mengirim data secara aman melalui internet. Data tersebut dienkripsi untuk menjaga keamanan dan kerahasiannya, sehingga aman meskipun melalui jaringan internet. Proses pengiriman data ini melalui apa yang disebut sebagai tunneling, yaitu suatu cara untuk mentransfer data dari satu jaringan ke jaringan lain secara rahasia menggunakan internet. Ada dua jenis protokol yang dapat dipilih untuk menggunakan VPN, yaitu PPTP dan L2TP. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menganalisis perbandingan VPN PPTP dan L2TP untuk mengetahui kinerja dari dua protokol tersebut. Penulis akan membuat skenario pengujian dengan menggunakan router mikrotik menggunakan aplikasi FTP (File Transfer Protocol) dan aplikasi wirehshark dengan parameter Quality of Control (QoS) yang terdiri dari Delay, Throughtput dan Packet Loss. Hasil perbandingan yang di dapat untuk mengetahui kinerja masing-masing protokol VPN. Kata Kunci: PPTP, L2TP, PPDIOO, QoS, VPN
