Abstract

The film The East (De Oost) in 2020 is an audio-visual communication medium that is one of the fictional films with historical spices that raises the issue of antipathy. This research aims to find out the iconography of antipathy towards Indonesian fighters in the perspective of Dutch filmmakers who tried to convey in the film. Antipathy means rejection or a strong feeling of dislike, a feeling of opposition to a certain object that is persona and abstract. Whenever a person interacts with others, it generates feelings within them. These feelings then affect the way the individual thinks and behaves. Merriam Webster mentions several factors that can lead to antipathy, namely intense hostility, hatred, hurt feelings and anger. The research paradigm used is constructivism with a qualitative approach, focusing on subjective meaning and specific descriptions from the perspective of verbal communication, nonverbal, camera angles, shooting techniques and image coloring. Using Ferdinand de Saussure's Semiotics method that shares the signification process into two sides, namely the "Signifier" and "Signified" of the movie. The results of the research in the four excerpts studied there is an iconography of antipathy to Indonesian fighters. First, antipathy is based on anger, anxiety, hurt, resentment, hostility and hatred. Second, the use of low angle is intended to support the antipathy shown to Indonesian fighters who are considered low in the eyes of the Dutch army. Thirdly, the use of close up is intended to show the expression of emotion in the Dutch army's antipathy towards Indonesian fighters. Finally, the use of dark colors and low brightness aims to display a sense of pressure, gloom, and depression in the antipathy towards Indonesian fighters. Keywords: Iconography, Semiotics, Film, War, Antipathy Film The East (De Oost) tahun 2020 merupakan media komunikasi bersifat audio visual yang menjadi salah satu film fiksi dengan bumbu sejarah yang mengangkat isu sikap antipati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ikonografi sikap antipati terhadap pejuang Indonesia dalam perspektif sineas Belanda yang coba disampaikan dalam film. Antipati memiliki makna penolakan atau perasaan tidak suka yang kuat, perasaan menentang objek tertentu yang bersifat persona dan abstrak. Setiap kali seseorang berinteraksi dengan orang lain, hal itu menghasilkan perasaan dalam diri mereka. Perasaan ini kemudian mempengaruhi cara individu tersebut berpikir dan bersikap. Merriam Webster menyebutkan beberapa faktor yang dapat menimbulkan sikap antipati, yaitu permusuhan yang inte, kebencian, perasaan terluka dan kemarahan. Paradigma penelitian yang dipakai adalah konstruktivisme dengan pendekatan kualitatif, berfokus pada makna subjektif dan deskripsi secara spesifik dari perspektif komunikasi verbal, nonverbal, sudut kamera, teknik pengambilan gambar dan pewarnaan gambar. Menggunakan metode Semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure yang membagikan proses penandaan menjadi dua sisi, yaitu “Petanda” dan “Penanda” dari film. Hasil penelitian dalam empat cuplikan yang diteliti terdapat ikonografi sikap antipati kepada pejuang Indonesia. Pertama, sikap antipati didasarkan pada rasa marah, cemas, terluka, dendam, permusuhan dan kebencian. Kedua, penggunaan low angle dimaksudkan untuk mendukung sikap antipati yang ditunjukan kepada pejuang Indonesia yang dianggap rendah di mata tentara Belanda. Ketiga, penggunaan close up dimaksudkan untuk menunjukan ekspresi emosi dalam sikap antipati tentara Belanda terhadap pejuang Indonesia. Terakhir, penggunaan warna gelap dan kecerahan rendah bertujuan untuk menampilkan rasa tekanan, suram, dan depresi pada sikap antipati terhadap pejuang Indonesia.
