Abstract
Become a single unmarried woman is not an ideal situation in Indonesian society. The aim of this study is to explore stigma and the meaning in life from single elderly women who stay in nursery home based on their subjective experiences. Phenomenological Qualitative method was used in this study, while data collections is gathered using semi-structured interview and the data is analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method. There are four themes revealed in this study: (1) factors that affects the respondents not to marry, (2) respondent’s view about single unmarried life, (3) experiences of single unmarried life stigma, and (4) meaning in life. Keywords: Meaning in life, stigma, single woman, elderly Abstrak: Menjadi perempuan lajang yang tidak pernah menikah bukanlah suatu hal yang ideal dalam kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat gambaran stigma yang dihadapi dan makna hidup perempuan lajang lanjut usia di panti wreda berdasarkan pengalaman subjektif responden. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif fenomenologis dengan pengambilan data menggunakan wawancara semi-terstruktur dan pengolahan data menggunakan teknik analisis interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Ada empat tema utama yang diidentifikasi melalui penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) faktor yang memengaruhi responden untuk tidak menikah; (2) pandangan terkait hidup melajang; (3) pengalaman terkait stigma hidup lajang; dan (4) makna hidup. Kata kunci: Makna hidup, stigma, perempuan lajang, lanjut usia.
