Abstract

Instagram is a social media that has the largest number of users, with instagram individuals can connect with other people without having to meet in person, but this can cause problems, one of which is the phenomenon of fear of missing out (fomo). Individuals who experience fomo will feel anxious, worried and afraid of missing out on valuable moments experienced by other individuals when they are not around, this makes individuals check their smartphone more often to stay up to date on other people's activities on social media. Early adulthood is the age that experiences fomo the most. One of the factors that can encourage fomo is self-esteem, and low self-esteem can be a factor in individuals experiencing social comparison. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of self-esteem and social comparison on the fear of missing out either partially or simultaneously. The sample in this study were 363 early adult Instagram users who live in DKI Jakarta. The sampling technique uses Non-Probability with Accidental Sampling. Data analysis method using Multiple Linear Regression. The results in this study indicate that self-esteem and social comparison affect the fear of missing out both partially and simultaneously with an influence contribution of 24.7%. Keywords: Self-esteem, Social Comparison, Fear of Missing Out, Instagram, Early Adult Instagram merupakan media sosial yang memiliki jumlah pengguna terbanyak, dengan adanya instagram individu dapat terhubung dengan orang lain tanpa harus bertemu secara langsung, namun hal tersebut dapat menyebabkan masalah salah satunya terjadi fenomena fear of missing out (fomo). Individu yang mengalami fomo akan merasakan cemas, khawatir serta takut tertinggal akan momen berharga yang dialami oleh individu lain saat dirinya tidak ada, hal tersebut membuat individu lebih sering mengecek ponsel untuk tetap up to date terhadap kegiatan orang lain di media sosial. Dewasa awal menjadi usia yang paling banyak mengalami fomo. Salah satu faktor yang dapat mendorong terjadinya fomo adalah self-esteem, dan self-esteem yang rendah dapat menjadi salah satu faktor individu mengalami social comparison atau perbandingan sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh self-esteem dan social comparison terhadap fear of missing out baik secara parsial maupun simultan. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 363 individu dewasa awal pengguna instagram yang berdomisili di DKI Jakarta. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan Non-Probability dengan Sampling Insidental (Accidental Sampling). Metode analisis data menggunakan Regresi Linear Berganda. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa self-esteem dan social comparison mempengaruhi fear of missing out pada baik secara parsial maupun simultan dengan sumbangan pengaruh sebesar 24,7%.
