Abstract
The waves of modernization are currently taking over Javanese culture. This wave puts Javanese society in danger of abandoning its values. One negative effect of the strikes on Javanese culture was a decrease in Javanese speakers. As a matter of fact, local cultural programs get less air time on television today. Interestingly, in the midst of the lack of local cultural shows on television, SCTV aired the Javanese language television series Lara Ati. The author is intrigued in analyzing how different parties' ideological conflicts are portrayed in the series. The writer used the critical discourse analysis (CDA) method of Teun A. van Dijk's model. Meanwhile, the type of research is critical description. As the research is goaloriented, this analysis is also prescriptive. This study aimed to first explain the various conflicts of ideology in Lara Ati, then to explain the director's social cognition as it relates to viewing Javanese cultural issues, and finally to explain the conflict as an ideological representation that is used to construct a Javanese cultural entity. The data is collected through observation, interview with the director (Bayu Skak), and documentation that includes screenshots of scenes and dialog excerpts. Three results can be drawn from this study. First, the series displays three ideological conflicts: the idealized concept of becoming a civil service (PNS), the threat posed by Chinese people, and the distance between Javanese fathers and sons. Second, director Lara Ati's social cognition in looking at issues related to Javanese culture can be seen through the four schemes, namely: person, self, role, and event scheme. Thirdly, the conflicts which are ideological representations are used to build Javanese cultural entities through resistance or opposition. Keywords: Javanese culture, ideology, Lara Ati, series, critical discourse analysis Serangan ombak modernisasi kini sedang melanda budaya Jawa. Akibat adanya serangan ini, masyarakat Jawa berada dalam suatu bahaya keterasingan terhadap nilai-nilainya sendiri. Serangan terhadap budaya Jawa membawa dampak serius, salah satunya jumlah penutur bahasa Jawa kian menurun. Bahkan, televisi sebagai media informasi, juga kurang memberi tempat pada tayangan budaya lokal. Di tengah minimnya tayangan budaya lokal di televisi, SCTV, menayangkan serial televisi Lara Ati berbahasa Jawa. Di dalamnya merepresentasikan pertarungan ideologi berbagai pihak. Fenomena ini menarik untuk diteliti. Metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis wacana kritis model Teun A. van Dijk. Sementara, tipe atau sifat penelitian adalah deskripsi kritis. Juga, karena berorientasi pada tujuan, analisis ini juga bersifat preskriptif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab tiga rumusan masalah yakni: bagaimana ragam konflik ideologis pada serial televisi Lara Ati terlihat dalam teks; kognisi sosial sutradara dalam memandang persoalan terkait budaya Jawa; dan konflik yang merupakan representasi ideologis dipakai untuk membangun entitas budaya Jawa. Data diambil dari observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan sutradara, dan dokumentasi berupa potongan scene dan dialog. Dari riset ini dapat ditarik tiga kesimpulan. Pertama, ada tiga konflik ideologis yang terlihat dalam teks yakni Pegawai Negeri Sipil (PNS) sebagai pekerjaan idaman, orang Tionghoa yang dianggap sebagai “ancaman”, dan relasi bapak-anak yang berjarak. Kedua, kognisi sosial sutradara Lara Ati (Bayu Skak) dalam memandang persoalan terkait budaya Jawa dapat dilihat melalui keempat skema, yakni: skema person, diri, peran, dan peristiwa. Ketiga, konflik yang merupakan representasi ideologis dimanfaatkan untuk membangun entitas budaya Jawa lewat resistensi atau perlawanan.
