Abstract

The teaching profession for children with special needs cannot be separated from stres. Stres can have a negative impact on teacher performance, so it is necessary to develop an effective coping strategy in order to get past the stres experienced and still have good quality work. Stres on teachers can be caused by various things such as student behavior, difficulties in managing time and resources, the need to be recognized professionally, and poor relationships within the school environment either between teachers and student guardians or student and teacher relationships. Various forms of stres experienced by teachers, such as heart palpitations, tremors, dizziness, and emotional ones such as fear, worry, difficulty focusing, and explosions. It cannot be denied that the same and similar things are also experienced by teachers of moderately mentally retarded children. To overcome these sources of stres, an effective coping strategy is absolutely necessary for teachers. The purpose of this study was to look at the description of coping stres on teachers who teach mentally retarded children in the moderate category. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this study were teachers who taught mentally retarded children in the moderate category and there were 3 people, because this number was considered sufficient to complete the data needed by researchers. Data were obtained by interview, after which they were formed verbatim, coding categories and interpretations were carried out on the three research subjects. From the results of the research conducted, it can be seen that there are 3 sources of stres experienced by the subject, namely (1) curriculum changes that often occur, (2) children's tantrum behavior when entering class, and (3) rejection from parents or guardians of students for negative behavior what their children do, and the forms of stres that occur to the subject are dizziness, body aches, confusion, high pitched speech, high emotions, and confusion. So the subjects did coping to overcome the stres that happened to them. The coping strategy used by the subject is to use problem focused coping, namely looking for the right tricks, telling fellow teachers or closest friends about the problems they are facing, and communicating with the student's guardians, while the emotion focused coping strategy carried out by the subject is listening to music, be active with spiritual activities, singing, eating and tending plants. The subject takes this action to overcome the stres experienced so that he remains a professional teacher in carrying out his duties. Stres dapat berdampak negatif pada kinerja guru maka perlu mengembangkan suatu strategi coping yang efektif agar dapat melewati stres yang dialami dan tetap memiliki kualitas kerja yang baik. Stres pada guru dapat disebabkan oleh berbagai hal seperti perilaku siswa, kesulitan dalam manajemen waktu dan sumber-sumber, kebutuhan untuk diakui secara professional, dan buruknya hubungan dalam lingkup Sekolah baik antara guru dan wali murid ataupun hubungan siswa dan guru. Macam-macam bentuk stres yang di alami para guru yaitu seperti jantung berdebar-debar, gemetar, pusing, serta yang emosional seperti rasa takut, khawatir, sulit fokus, dan meledak-ledak. Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa hal yang sama dan serupa juga dialami oleh para guru anak tunagtrahita kategori sedang. Untuk mengatasi sumber stres tersebut, maka strategi coping yang efektif mutlak diperlukan oleh para guru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat gambaran coping stres pada guru yang mengajar anak tunagrahita kategori sedang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru yang mengajar anak tunagrahita kategori sedang dan berjumlah 3 orang, karena jumlah tersebut dianggap sudah cukup melengkapi data yang dibutuhkan oleh peneliti. Data diperoleh dengan wawancara, setelah itu dibentuk verbatim, koding kategori dan dilakukan interpretasi pada ketiga subjek penelitian. Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, dapat diketahui bahwa ada 3 sumber stres yang dialami subjek yaitu (1) perubahan kurikulum yang sering terjadi, (2) perilaku tantrum anak saat masuk Sekolah dan kelas, dan (3) penolakan dari orang tua atau wali murid akan perilaku negatif yang dilakukan anak-anak mereka. Bentuk reaksi stres yang terjadi pada subjek adalah pusing, badan sakit, bengong, nada bicara tinggi, emosi tinggi, dan bingung. Subjek melakukan coping untuk menanggulangi stres yang terjadi pada diri mereka. Strategi coping yang dilakukan subjek adalah dengan menggunakan problem focused coping yaitu mencari trik-trik yang tepat, bercerita kepada rekan guru atau teman terdekat akan masalah yang dihadapi, dan berkomunikasi kepada wali murid, sedangkan pada strategi emotion focused coping yang dilakukan subjek adalah, mendengarkan musik, aktifkan diri dengan kegiatan rohani, menyanyi, makan dan merawat tanaman. Subjek melakukan tindakan ini untuk melewati stres yang dialami sehingga tetap menjadi guru yang professional dalam menjalankan tugas.
