Abstract

Wind Tunnel is a device that artificially produces air flow relative to stationary objects and measures aerodynamic force and pressure distribution to simulate actual conditions. The Wind Tunnel offers a fast, economical, and accurate method for aerodynamic research. However, currently there is no Wind Tunnel that can support aerodynamic testing in the engine laboratory of Mercu Buana University. Therefore, this research aims to obtain the design of a low speed wind tunnel that is adequate for teaching and research support for lecturers to students and to calculate the size of the Wind Tunnel that is suitable for the size of the Energy Conversion Lab of Mercu Buana University. This research was conducted with the observation method as well as calculating the data directly with preliminary testing using CFD. The results of this research obtained the design of Test Section low speed wind tunnel with length 84 cm inlet width 42 cm inlet height 42 cm, design of Contraction Section low speed wind tunnel with inlet width 110 cm inlet height 110 cm outlet width 42 cm outlet height 42 cm length 120 cm, design Settling Chamber low speed wind tunnel with width 110 cm height 110 cm length 60 cm, design Diffuser low speed wind tunnel with inlet height 42 cm length 160 cm outlet diameter 67 cm angle 5° for the Energy Conversion Lab of the University of Mercubuana good and meet eligibility and adequacy. In the results of this research, the speed data was 18.72 m/s at the inlet, 50 m/s at the test section, and 37 m/s at the outlet. Obtained pressure data of 527.11 Pa at the inlet and 0 Pa at the outlet. Keywords: Design, Low Speed Wind tunnel, Open cycle, Practicum tool, Energy conversion lab Wind Tunnel adalah perangkat yang secara artifisial menghasilkan aliran udara relatif terhadap benda diam dan mengukur gaya aerodinamis dan distribusi tekanan untuk mensimulasikan dengan kondisi aktual. Wind Tunnel menawarkan cara yang cepat, ekonomis, dan akurat untuk penelitian aerodinamis. Namun, saat ini belum ada Wind Tunnel yang dapat menunjang pengujian aerodinamis di laboratorium mesin Universitas Mercu Buana. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan rancangan low speed wind tunnel yang memadai untuk sarana pembelajaran dan pendukung penelitian dosen hingga mahasiswa dan menghitung ukuran Wind Tunnel yang sesuai untuk ukuran Lab Konversi Energi Universitas Mercu Buana. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode observasi serta menghitung data secara langsung dengan pengujian awal menggunakan CFD. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan desain Test Section low speed wind tunnel dengan panjang 84 cm lebar inlet 42 cm tinggi inlet 42 cm, desain Contraction Section low speed wind tunnel dengan lebar inlet 110 cm tinggi inlet 110 cm lebar outlet 42 cm tinggi outlet 42 cm panjang 120 cm, desain Settling Chamber low speed wind tunnel dengan lebar 110 cm tinggi 110 cm panjang 60 cm, desain Diffuser low speed wind tunnel dengan tinggi inlet 42 cm panjang 160 cm diameter outlet 67 cm sudut 5° untuk Lab Konversi Energi Universitas Mercubuana yang sudah baik dan memenuhi kelayakan dan memadai. Pada hasil penelitian ini didapatkan data kecepatan 18.72 m/s pada inlet, 50 m/s pada bagian test section, dan 37 m/s pada outlet. Didapatkan data tekanan 527,11 Pa pada inlet dan 0 Pa pada outlet.
