Abstract

The development of technology and information, encourage humans to create a variety of social media to meet communication needs. Social media users include various groups including age, gender, and social status. Individuals in the digital age share their personal information through social media activities, as well as sexually disoriented people. The phenomenon of LGBT self-disclosure through the Tinder application activity is interesting and worthy of study. Tinder is a matchmaking application with various features that support LGBT people interacting with each other and making self-disclosures for various purpose. The purpose of this research is to describe the process of self-disclosure of LGBT people through the Tinder application activity, and to find out the obstacles and changes during and after self-disclosure. In the literature review, this research cites several communication theories, self disclosure, Johari Window, interpersonal communication, interpersonal relationships, communication media, new media, computer mediated communication (CMC), and LGBT. This qualitative research uses the constructivism paradigm with the phenomenological method of Alfred Schutz's approach. The subjects in this study were sexually disoriented or LGBT people as users of the Tinder application. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and checking the validity of the data. The results of this study are that there are several stages in the process of LGBT people towards real self-disclosure, there are several factors as well as internal and external obstacles that can affect the self-disclosure process, then there are changes in emotions and behavior after successful self-disclosure. Keywords : Phenomenology, Self-Disclosure, LGBT, Tinder. Perkembangan teknologi informasi mendorong manusia menciptakan beragam media sosial untuk memenuhi kebutuhan berkomunikasi. Pengguna media sosial meliputi berbagai golongan baik usia, gender, dan status sosial. Individu di era digital membagikan informasi pribadinya melalui aktivitas media sosial, begitu pula dengan kaum disorientasi seksual. Fenomena pengungkapan diri kaum LGBT melalui aktivitas aplikasi Tinder menjadi hal menarik dan pantas untuk dikaji. Tinder merupakan aplikasi pencarian jodoh dengan berbagai fitur yang mendukung kaum LGBT saling berinteraksi dan melakukan pengungkapan diri dengan berbagai tujuan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan proses pengungkapan diri kaum LGBT melalui aktivitas aplikasi Tinder, dan mengetahui hambatan serta perubahan saat dan setelah melakukan pengungkapan diri. Dalam Tinjauan pustaka penelitian ini mengutip beberapa teori komunikasi, self disclosure, Johari Window, komunikasi antarpribadi, hubungan interpersonal, media komunikasi, new media, computer mediated communication (CMC), dan LGBT. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dengan metode fenomenologi pendekatan milik Alfred Schutz. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kaum disorientasi seksual atau LGBT sebagai pengguna aplikasi Tinder. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam, observasi, dokumentasi, dan pengecekan keabsahan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat beberapa tahapan dalam proses kaum LGBT menuju pengungkapan diri yang sesungguhnya, terdapat beberapa faktor serta hambatan internal dan eksternal yang dapat memengaruhi proses pengungkapan diri, lalu terdapat perubahan emosi dan tingkah laku setelah pengungkapan diri berhasil dilakukan.
