Abstract
From the printing process of newspaper products conducted at PT. X, there is still a lot of waste ocurred with the amount that exceeds the maximum limit permitted by the company, which is 4%. Therefore, the company must immediately evaluate and improve the ongoing production process. The method used in this research was the Eight Steps Seven Tools method to identify and analyze the waste that occured during the production process. This research aimed to determine the type of waste occurred, analyze the factors causing waste, and provide suggestions for the improvement waste management in newspaper printing. In this research, there were five types of waste occured, namely faded colors, dirty prints, damaged paper, cut-off paper, and blurred prints. The factors that caused waste were scumming, catch-up and mis-register, the different circumference of the printing cylinder, the operator that did not understand ink water balance, uncontrolled paper moisture, damaged printing plate due to high water pH, low blanket elasticity, peyang paper, inconsistent ink viscosity, absence of temperature control in paper warehouse, presence of paper dust, FIFO system which was not carried out, and post-printed rubber roll that was not cleaned. The proposed improvements to overcome such problems are to make a blanket replacement schedule, make packing blanket, conduct training for operators on ink water balance, carry out special handling for the remaining paper roll, apply the FIFO system to ink material, arrange a special room for paper roll storage, and clean the post-printed roll rubber. Keywords: Newspaper, Waste, Eight Steps Seven Tools. Dari proses cetak produk surat kabar yang dilakukan di PT. X, masih terdapat banyak waste yang terjadi dengan jumlah yang melebihi batas maksimal yang diizinkan oleh perusahaan yaitu sebesar 4%. Oleh karena itu, perusahaan harus segera melakukan evaluasi dan perbaikan proses produksi yang berlangsung. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Eight Steps Seven Tools untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisa waste yang terjadi selama proses produksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui jenis waste yang terjadi, mengaalisa faktor-faktor penyebab waste dan memberikan usulan perbaikan untuk mengurangi jumlah waste pada cetak surat kabar. Pada penelitian ini, terdapat lima jenis waste yang terjadi, yaitu warna pudar, cetakan kotor, kertas rusak, kertas terpotong dan cetakan kabur. Faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya waste adalah terjadi scumming, catch-up dan mis-register, keliling cylinder cetak yang tidak sama, operator yang tidak mengerti ink water balance, kelembaban kertas yang tidak terkontrol, plat cetak rusak karena pH air yang tinggi, elastisitas blanket yang rendah, kertas peyang, viskositas tinta yang tidak konsisten, tidak adanya pengatur suhu di gudang kertas, adanya debu kertas, sistem FIFO yang tidak dilakukan dan tidak membersihkan roll karet pasca cetak. Usulan perbaikan untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut adalah membuat jadwal penggantian blanket, membuat packing blanket, mengadakan pelatihan kepada operator tentang ink water balance, melakukan penanganan khusus terhadap roll kertas sisa, menerapkan sistem FIFO pada material tinta, mengatur ruangan khusus penyimpanan roll kertas dan membersihkan roll karet pasca cetak.
