Abstract

The Baduy people are the people whose lives are self-alienated in the hinterland of South Banten. Baduy people are known as people who are able to manage the forest and environment well. This research aims to determine the conditions of the Baduy community and the environment and how they use it wisely and wisely. The basic method used is a survey method with some techniques PRA. The research was conducted in the village of Kanekes, Leuwidamar subdistrict, regency of Lebak. Banten Province. The data collected, whether primary data or secondary data, is then analyzed with qualitative and quantitative decryptory analysis. The area of Baduy region is 5,101.8 hectares, consisting of a cultivation area of 2,570 hectares (50.4%) and environmental protection areas covering an area of 2,532 hectares (49.6%). The population is 11,172 inhabitants (2,948 KK). All of its inhabitants are in a livelihood as a dry rice farmer (Huma) with a converted farming system governed by customs. Its environmental protection area consists of village and cover forest which is absolute only for the protection area. In the management of its environment, Baduy community adheres to customary rules which essentially is a strict spatial arrangement for protected areas and cultivation areas. Keyword : Buku Informasi Suku Baduy Masyarakat Baduy merupakan masyarakat yang hidupnya mengasingkan diri di pedalaman Banten Selatan. Masyarakat Baduy terkenal sebagai masyarakat yang mampu mengelola hutan dan lingkungannyadengan baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi masyarakat Baduy dan lingkungan serta bagaimana mereka memanfaatkannya dengan arif dan bijaksana. Metode dasar yang digunakan adalah metode survey dengan beberapa teknik PRA. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Kanekes, Kecamatan Leuwidamar, Kabupaten Lebak. Propinsi Banten. Data yang dikumpulkan, baik data primer ataupun data sekunder, kemudian dianalisis dengan analisis dekriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Luas wilayah Baduy adalah 5.101,8 hektar, terdiri dari areal budidaya seluas 2.570 hektar (50,4 %) dan areal perlindungan lingkungan seluas 2.532 hektar (49,6 %). Jumlah penduduknya sebanyak 11.172 jiwa (2.948 KK). Seluruh penduduknya bermata pencaharian sebagai petani padi kering (huma) dengan sistem perladangan berpindah yang diatur oleh adat. Areal perlindungan lingkungannya terdiri dari hutan lindungan kampung dan hutan tutupan yang mutlak hanya untuk kawasan perlindungan. Dalam pengelolaan lingkungannya, masyarakat Baduy berpegang pada aturan adat yang intinya adalah pengaturan tata ruang yang tegas untuk kawasan lindung dan kawasan budidaya.
