Abstract

The research aimsis to find out the relationship between loneliness and smartphone addiction in overseas students. This research used the quantitative approach. The population of this study were overseas students and the sample was taken 100 students in Jakarta. The sampling technique used the accidental sampling. The measuring tool for the data collection is the UCLA loneliness scale 3rd version which developed by Russel (20 valid items, α = 0.869) and smartphone addiction scale (SAS) developed by Kwon (30 valid items, α = 0.898). The data analysis used Pearson correlation analysis, and the results showed a positive and significant relationship between loneliness and smartphone addiction (r = 409; p = 0,000). These research results indicate that the higher loneliness cause the higher the smartphone addiction. Key Words: Loneliness, Smartphone Addiction, overseas students Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara loneliness dengan smartphone addiction pada mahasiswa perantau. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa perantau dan sampel yang yang diambil adalah mahasiswa perantau di Jakarta berjumlah 100 orang. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah teknik accidental sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 yang dikembangkan oleh Russel (20 item valid, α = 0,869) dan Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS) yang dikembangkan oleh Kwon (30 item valid, α = 0,898). Analisis data menggunakan analisis korelasi pearson. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan ada hubungan positif dan signifikan antara loneliness dengan smartphone addiction (r = 409; p = 0,000). Hasil tersebut menunjukkan semakin tinggi loneliness maka semakin tinggi smartphone addiction. Kata Kunci: Loneliness, Smartphone Addiction, Mahasiswa Perantau
