Abstract

Gaya komunikasi adalah perilaku komunikasi yang dilakukan seseorang yang bertujuan untuk mendapatkan feedback dari orang lain terhadap pesan yang disampaikan. Tumbuh besar di berbagai macam budaya yang berbeda beda pada usia dini dapat mempengaruhi gaya komunikasi seorang individu dibanding seorang individu yang seumur hidupnya tinggal di satu lokasi dengan satu budaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gaya komunikasi individu yang mempunyai pengalaman sebagai Third Culture Kid dalam pekerjaannya. Penelitian ini akan fokus pada Teori Gaya Komunikasi yang dikemukakan oleh (Tubbs & Moss, 2008) dimana gaya komunikasi dapat dibagi menjadi 6 yaitu: the controlling style, the equalitarian style, the structuring style, the dynamic style, the relinquishing style, dan the withdrawal style. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif yang menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan wawancara dan metode studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pengalaman seorang individu sebagai Third Culture Kid sangat berdampak pada gaya komunikasi masing- masing individu dalam lingkungan pekerjaannya dan para informan menggunakan gaya komunikasi The Withdrawal Style, The Relinquishing Style, The Equalitarian Style, dan The Dynamic Style. Dari hasil penelitian dapat diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pengalaman seorang individu sebagai Third Culture Kid sangat berdampak pada gaya komunikasi nya dikemudian hari, gaya komunikasi para informan berbeda- beda namun gaya komunikasi ketiga informan tersebut merupakan hasil pengaruh dari pengalaman mereka sebagai Third Culture Kid, pengalaman sebagai Third Culture Kid mempunyai dampak positif terhadap jenjang karir jika para Third Culture Kid ingin mempunyai pekerjaan profesional sebagai seorang praktisi PR. This study aims to determine the communication style of individuals who have experience as a Third Culture Kid in their work. This research will focus on the Communication Style Theory proposed by (Tubbs & Moss, 2008) where communication styles can be divided into six namely: the controlling style, the equalitarian style, the structuring style, the dynamic style, the relinquishing style, and the withdrawal. styles. This research approach is a qualitative approach that uses data collection techniques using interviews and literature study methods. The results showed that an individual's experience as a Third Culture Kid greatly affected the communication style of each individuals in their work environment and the informants used The Withdrawal Style, The Relinquishing Style, The Equalitarian Style, and The Dynamic Style communication styles. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the experience of an individual as a Third Culture Kid greatly affects their communication style in the future, the communication styles of the informants are different but the communication style of the three informants is the result of the influence of their experience as a Third Culture Kid, experience as a Third Culture Kid has a positive impact on career paths if the individuals decide to have a professional job as a PR practitioner.
