Abstract
The trailer is to signal that a film will be aired and to give a target audience a bit of narration about the contents of the film. Trailers can also provide viruses, where viewers can provide information to others through word of mouth or become a film marketing strategy. This research uses descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. The method is used to analyze the application of Soviet Montage editing on the 10 best-selling global action film trailers in 2014-2019 in capturing interest in watching the public. Researchers divided the trailer into 5 rounds by Derek Lieu; Cold Open, Introduction, Escalation, Climax and Button. The results of the research from the tenth masters of this action film are, in the open trailer round, the use of the Metric Montage technique is dominated by a ratio of 9:10, with an average duration of 5 - 33 seconds. In Production stage, metric montage dominates its use with a 6:10 trailer ratio, with an average duration of 14- 28 seconds. In the escalation round the use of rhythmic montage and tonal montage get commensurate results, with an average duration of 6-76 seconds. Climax uses overtonal montage editing techniques with a radio 6:10 trailer, with a duration of 7- 83 seconds. The last round of the button, its use only in 3 trailers, 2 trailers using intellectual montage techniques and 1 other using metric montage, with a duration of 9-12 seconds. Trailer adalah untuk memberi sinyal bahwa sebuah film akan tayang dan untuk memberi sedikit gambaran narasi kepada target penonton tentang isi film tersebut. Trailer juga dapat memberikan virus, dimana para penonton bisa memberikan informasi kepada yang lainnya dari mulut ke mulut atau menjadi strategi pemasaran film. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode tersebut digunakan untuk menganalisa penerapan editing Soviet Montage pada 10 trailer film action global terlaris 2014-2019 dalam memikat minat menonton masyarakat. Peneliti membagi trailer menjadi 5 babak versi Derek Lieu; Cold Open, Introduction, Escalation, Climax dan Button. Hasil dari penelitian dari sepuluh trailer film action ini adalah, pada babak cold open trailer di dominasi penggunaan teknik Metric Montage dengan dengan rasio 9:10, rata-rata durasi 5 – 33 detik. Tahap Introduction, metric montage mendominasi penggunaannya dengan rasio 6:10 trailer, rata-rata durasi 14 – 28 detik. Pada babak escalation penggunaan rhythmic montage dan tonal montage mendapatkan hasil yang sepadan, dengan durasi rata-rata 6 – 76 detik. Climax menggunakan teknik editing overtonal montage dengan radio 6:10 trailer, dengan durasi 7 – 83 detik. Babak terakhir button, penggunaannya hanya ada dalam 3 trailer, 2 trailer menggunakan teknik intellectual montage dan 1 lainnya menggunakan metric montage, dengan durasi 9 – 12 detik.
