Abstract

The usage of liquid detergents in Indonesia is increasing, it is higher than powder detergent. The usage of detergent can cause skin irritation. From the results of data collection on the usage of detergent over the past 6 months (May-October 2019) with 36 respondents, it is quite significant that there are 14 detergent users (38.89%) have skin irritation that consists of 8 people (22.22) %) are powder detergent users and 6 people (16.67%) are liquid detergent users. The detergents contain surfactants or a mixture of surfactants and other supporting materials to remove dirt. Common surfactants used are SDBS, SLS, and SLES. SDBS is a favourit among household and industrial detergent producers because of the price is heap, good detergency abilities, and also has lots of foam. The purpose of this research is to findout whether SDBS and SLES can cause skin irritation both either individually or being together, also which composition has lower level skin irritation effect, and whether there is a relationship between the House of Quality and Linear Regression method. in this study, the House of Quality method is used to determine the priority of the improvement of the liquid detergent formula, followed by making a prototype of product development and the results were analyzed by the Linear Regression method. Limitations in this study are the usage of a total surfactant formulation is 20% and the pH range is 7.0 - 8.0. The conclusion for this research are SDBS and SLES affect the skin irritation both individually and together, the composition that causes the lowest skin irritation is the use of SLES and non-ionic surfactants with a maximum ratio of 3: 1, and there is close link between House of Quality and Linear Regression methods used where the main improvement priorities of the technical characteristics on the House of Quality method, that is the type and composition of the surfactants are in line with the statistical results on the Linear Regression method. Keywords: Liquid detergent, SDBS, SLES, skin irritation, House of Quality, Linear Regression Penggunaan deterjen cuci cair di Indonesia makin meningkat, pertumbuhannya naik lebih tinggi dari deterjen cuci bubuk. Pemakaian deterjen dapat menyebabkan iritasi kulit. Dari hasil pengumpulan data penggunaan deterjen selama 6 bulan terakhir (Mei-Oktober 2019) dengan jumlah 36 responden, terdapat hasil yang cukup signifikan bahwa ada 14 orang (38,89%) pengguna deterjen mengalami iritasi kulit yang terdiri dari 8 orang (22,22%) pengguna deterjen cuci bubuk dan 6 orang (16,67%) pengguna deterjen cuci cair. Deterjen mengandung surfaktan atau campuran surfaktan dan bahan-bahan pendukung lainnya untuk mengangkat kotoran. Surfaktan yang umum dipakai adalah SDBS, SLS, dan SLES. SDBS paling diminati oleh produsen deterjen rumah tangga dan industri karena harganya murah, merupakan pembersih yang baik dan busanya melimpah. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh SDBS dan SLES terhadap iritasi kulit baik secara individual maupun bersama-sama, komposisi surfaktan yang menyebabkan iritasi kulit paling rendah, dan ada tidaknya hubungan antara metode House of Quality dan Regresi Linear. Dalam penelitian ini, metode House of Quality digunakan untuk mengetahui prioritas perbaikan formula deterjen cuci cair, dilanjutkan dengan pembuatan prototype hasil pengembangan produk dan hasilnya dianalisa dengan metode Regresi Linear. Batasan dalam penelitian ini adalah penggunaan formulasi total surfaktan 20% dan pH berkisar 7,0 – 8,0. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah SDBS dan SLES berpengaruh terhadap iritasi kulit baik secara individual maupun bersama�sama, komposisi yang menyebabkan iritasi kulit paling rendah adalah penggunaan SLES dan surfaktan non-ionik dengan rasio maksimal 3:1, dan ada kaitan erat antara metode House of Quality dan Regresi Linear yang digunakan dimana prioritas perbaikan utama karakteristik teknik pada metode House of Quality, yaitu jenis dan komposisi surfaktan selaras dengan hasil statistik pada metode Regresi Linear.
