Abstract

This research is about the Construction of the Social Reality of the Katobengke People, a Butonese Ethnic Sub in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi Province as a resident of the Katobengke, Lipu, Sulaa and Waborobo Sub- districts, Betoambari District. As a group, they are allowed to interact with groups of people in Buton. Katobengke people are given stereotypes and prejudices by other groups as a group of stupid, dirty, strong eating, even slaves (papara). The social definition is supported by the situation and social conditions of the Katobengke people in their daily lives who have certain characteristics such as physical characteristics, manner of dress, language, work, which distinguish their groups from other groups in the structure of Buton society. As a marginalized group, the Katobengke fight against these stereotypes and prejudices starting with building awareness of thinking (conciousness mind) in the form of identity awareness in an effort to escape from isolation in various aspects of life and build negotiations on various political stages at the local level, both election Legislative members as well as the Regional Head election in Baubau City. The findings obtained in this study are 1). social stratification of the Buton people consists of three groups namely kaomu, walaka, and papara which are the basis of action in understanding the social world as the social status of the Buton people as an objective reality as well as being a subjective reality. 2). The slave discourse (Papara) which attaches to the Katobengke people as a lower social group, is still reproduced as a strategy in order to close the Katobengke opportunity in the local political stages, this is supported by the social situation and condition of the Katobengke people in their daily lives and is a historical burden in interact with other groups in the Buton community. 3). in the process of internalization and objectification, it gives birth to the awareness of the identity of the Katobengke People as a group that is dominated and embedded with a negative image, then the Katobengke people take the resistance as a form of rejection of the embodiment of the negative image of their group. in the discourse "Saliwu Unite" in its political reality, in internal Katobengke society has not given birth to a political force because there are no actors who are able to unite it. Parabela as an adat institution only functions social institutions that are non- political in nature. 4) as a subjective reality of stereotypes embedded in the group, in the process of externalizing katobengke people do resistance through education and political channels, so as to give birth to a negotiation space that is now in every political contestation katobengke people are taken into account and give birth to a new negotiation space for the status of Katobengke people in the structure of Buton society. Penelitian ini adalah tentang Konstruksi Realitas Sosial Orang Katobengke, sebuah Sub Etnis Bangsa Buton di Kota Baubau Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara sebagai yang bermukim diwilayah Kelurahan Katobengke, Lipu, Sulaa dan Waborobo, Kecamatan Betoambari. Sebagai kelompok termajirnalkan dalam interaksi dengan kelompok-kelompok masyarakat buton. Orang Katobengke disematkan Stereotip dan prasangka oleh kelompok lain sebagai kelompok bodoh, kotor, Kuat makan, bahkan Budak (papara). Definisi sosial tersebut didukung oleh situasi dan kondisi sosial orang Katobengke dalam kesehariannya yang memiliki ciri-ciri tertentu seperti, ciri fisik, cara berpakaian, bahasa, pekerjaan, yang membedakan kelompok mereka dengan kelompok lain dalam struktur masyarakat Buton. Sebagai kelompok yang termarginalkan, Orang Katobengke melakukan perlawanan atas stereotip dan prasangka tersebut dimulai dengan membangun kesadaran berpikirnya (conciousness mind) berupa kesadaran identitas dalam upaya melepaskan diri dari keterisolasian di berbagai sendi kehidupan serta membangun negosiasi pada berbagai panggung-panggung politik dalam tingkat lokal baik pemilihan anggota legsilaltif maupun pemilihan Kepala Daerah di Kota Baubau. Temuan yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini adalah 1). stratifikasi sosial masyarakat Buton terdiri atas tiga kelompok yakni kaomu, walaka, dan papara yang menjadi dasar tindakan dalam memahami dunia sosial sebagai status sosial masyarakat Buton sebagai realitas Objektif sekaligus menjadi realitas Subjektif. 2). wacana Budak (Papara) yang lekatkan pada orang Katobengke sebagai kelompok sosial lapisan bawah, masih direproduksi sebagai strategi dalam rangka menutup peluang orang Katobengke dalam pangung-panggung politik lokal, ini didukung oleh situasi dan kondisi sosial orang Katobengke dalam kesehariannya dan merupakan sebuah beban sejarah dalam berinteraksi dengan kelompok lain dalam masyarakat Buton. 3). dalam proses internalisasi dan objektifikasi melahirkan kesadaran identitas Orang Katobengke sebagai kelompok yang didominasi dan disematkan citra negatif, maka orang Katobengke melakukan perlawanan (resistensi) sebagai bentuk penolakan terhadap sematan citra negatif atas kelompoknya. dalam wacana “Saliwu Bersatu” dalam realitas politiknya, dalam internal masyarakat Katobengke belum melahirkan sebuah kekuatan politik dikarenakan belum ada aktor-aktor yang mampu menyatukan hal tersebut. Parabela sebagai pranata adat hanya berfungsi lembaga sosial yang bersifat non politis. 4) sebagai sebuah realitas subjektif atas stereotip yang disematkan kepada kelompoknya, dalam proses Eksternalisasi orang katobengke melakukan resistensi lewat jalur pendidikan dan jalur politik, sehingga melahirkan ruang negosiasi yang kini dalam setiap kontestasi politik orang katobengke menjadi diperhitungkan dan melahirkan ruang negosiasi baru bagi status orang Katobengke dalam struktur masyarakat Buton.
