Abstract

The obstacles that occur as experienced by M. Pati Unus (20), this child feels text messages through Whatsapp often experience communication problems, because communication through text can cause misunderstandings because they do not have a sense of openness and lack of empathy given or received between Unus and his parents.This study aims to describe parents' interpersonal communication with children through the WhatsApp application of students from the Faculty of Communication of Mercu Buana University. This study uses a qualitative approach. This research method is qualitative descriptive. The data collection uses in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. Validity of data using triangulation source. The results of this study include: 1. The contents of the message between parents and children include health and college activities. 2. WhatsApp applications among parents still need a companion. 3. Comparison of WhatsApp with other media can be seen more easily by WhatsApp. 4. The emoticon function in the WhatsApp application can represent the feelings that will be conveyed to the parents or children. 5. Barriers to parental communication with children through the WhatsApp application a. supporting factors such as signal networks and physical barriers b. the importance of how important things are being discussed is an obstacle to children's openness in providing opportunities for communication. c. having prejudices creates barriers for parents, because children want to quickly end their communication. 6. The level of openness of children to parents because of the supporting factors that are given. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication of Parents with Children Overseas Through WhatsApp. Hambatan yang terjadi seperti yang di alami oleh M. Pati Unus (20) anak ini merasa pesan teks melalui Whatsapp sering kali mengalami gangguan komunikasi, karena kamunikasi melalui teks dapat menyebabkan kesalah pahaman karena tidak memiliki rasa keterbukaan dan kurangnya rasa Empati yang di berikan atau di terima antara unus dan orang tuanya.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan komunikasi antarpribadi orang tua dengan anak melalui aplikasi WhatsApp para mahasiswa perantau fikom Universitas Mercu Buana.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif.metode penelitian ini deskriptif kualitatif .Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara mendalam ,dokumentasi, dan observasi.Keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian ini antara lain: 1. Isi pesan komunikasi antarpribadi orang tua dengan anak meliputi kesehatan dan kegiatan kuliah. 2.aplikasi WhatsApp dikalangan orang tua masih butuh pendamping. 3.perbandingan WhatsApp dengan media lain dapat di lihat lebih mudah tampilan WhatsApp. 4. Fungsi emoticon pada aplikasi WhatsApp dapat mewakili perasaan yang akan disampaikan kepada oaring tua atau anak 5. Hambatan pada komunikasi orang tua dengan anak melalui aplikasi WhatsApp a. faktor pendukung seperti jaringan sinyal dan hambatan fisik b. kepentingan seberapa penting hal yang di bicarakan menjadi hambatan bagi keterbukaan anak dalam memberikan kesempatan berkomunikasi. c. memiliki prasangka membuat hambatan bagi orang tua, karena anak merasa ingin cepat mengakhiri komunikasinya. 6. Tingkat keterbukaan anak terhadap orang tua karena faktor pendukung yang di berikan. Kata kunci : Komunikasi AntarPribadi Orang Tua Dengan Anak Perantau Melalui WhatsApp
