Abstract
This study aims to determine differences in emotional regulation based on gender, age and ethnicity. Based on the theoretical basis of James J Gross (1998, 1999, 2002, 2003), there are two dimensions, namely cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression dimensions. If based on Gross (2003), if the cognitive reappraisal is higher, the individual will experience more positive emotions, which means that the reappraisal expresses more positive emotions with optimistic attitudes and is more likely to improve a bad mood than suppress emotions. In terms of well-being, reviewers had fewer depressive symptoms, and greater self-esteem, life satisfaction, and any other types of well-being. In this study there are hypotheses (1) there are differences in emotional regulation based on gender; (2) there are differences in emotional regulation based on age (3) there are differences in emotional regulation based on ethnicity. The method used is an online questionnaire with google form. The questionnaire used is the ERQ which was adapted from the questionnaire constructed by Gross and John (2003) used here. There were 191 participants at the University of Mercu Buana. This study resulted in differences in emotional regulation based on ethnicity. Keyword: emotion regulation, gender, age, ethnicity, college student Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan regulasi emosi berdasarkan jenis kelamin, usia dan juga suku. Dengan landasan teori James J Gross (1998, 1999, 2002, 2003) yang terdapat dua dimensi yaitu dimensi cognitive reappraisal dan expressive suppression. Jika berdasarkan Gross (2003), jika cognitive reappraisal lebih tinggi maka individu tersebut akan mengalami emosi yang lebih positif yang artinya reappraisal lebih mengekspresikan lebih banyak emosi positif dengan sikap-sikap optimis dan lebih cenderung untuk memperbaiki suasana hati yang buruk dibandingkan dengan menekan emosi. Dalam hal kesejahteraan, penilai ulang memiliki lebih sedikit gejala depresi, dan harga diri yang lebih besar, kepuasan hidup, dan setiap jenis kesejahteraan lain. Dalam penelitian ini terdapat hipotesis (1) ada perbedaan regulasi emosi berdasarkan jenis kelamin; (2) ada perbedaan regulasi emosi berdasarkan usia (3) ada perbedaan regulasi emosi berdasarkan suku. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuesioner online dengan google form. Kuesioner yang digunakan adalah ERQ yang diadaptasi dari kuesioner yang dikonstruksi oleh Gross dan John (2003) digunakan di sini. Partisipan berjumlah 191 orang pada Universitas Mercu Buana. Penelitian ini menghasilkan adanya perbedaan regulasi emosi berdasarkan suku.
