Abstract

Planning frontier residential / gated community boundaries are generally made by developers for security, and the social image for the inhabitants. In fact the limit is in response and perceived varies by the community in the housing and outside the housing. Therefore, this study aims to obtain how the perception and response of the community (outside or inside the housing around the boundary of the design boundary that has been created by the developer). Response in can be through observation periodically while perception can be through questionnaire and interview. Variables that are used as a reference in asking perceptions to the community include visual, security, and aspects of prestige. The results show that people in housing are not a problem with visual or security aspects, but according to people outside housing, the walls do not significantly affect their security status. While viewed from the aspect of prestige there is a difference between the community outside the housing with the community in the housing, the people in the housing assume the existence of the physical boundary wall does not limit them to interact and the existence of the physical boundary wall also does not distinguish the social status while people outside the housing assume that the existence of the physical boundary wall can differentiate the level of social status. Key words: Physical Limit of Housing, Perception, Response, Society Perencanaan batas perumahan berpagar / komunitas berpagar pada umumnya di buat oleh pengembang untuk kemanan, dan citra social bagi penghuninya. Pada kenyataanya batas tersebut di respon dan di persepsikan secara bervariasi oleh masyarakat di dalam perumahan maupun di luar perumahan. Untuk itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan bagaimana persepsi dan respon masyarakat (diluar maupun didalam perumahan di sekitar batas terhadap desain batas yang sudah dibuat oleh pengembang). Respon di dapat melalui observasi secara berkala sementara persepsi di dapat melalui kuisioner dan wawancara. Variabel yang dijadikan acuan dalam menanyakan persepsi kepada masyarakat di antaranya visual, keamanan, dan aspek prestise. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat di dalam perumahan tidak masalah dengan aspek visual maupun keamanan, namun menurut masyarakat di luar perumahan beranggapan bahwa dinding tersebut tidak terlalu mempengaruhi status keamanan mereka. Sedangkan ditinjau dari aspek prestise terdapat perbedaan antara masyarakat diluar perumahan dengan masyarakat di dalam perumahan, masyarakat didalam perumahan beranggapan keberadaan dinding batas fisik tidak membatasi mereka untuk berinteraksi dan keberadaan dinding batas fisik juga tidak membedakan status sosial sementara masyarakat diluar perumahan mengganggap bahwa keberadaan dinding batas fisik dapat membedakan tingkat status sosial.
