Abstract

This car is designed to follow efforts to save energy or fuel consumption which will be contested in the 2018 Energy Saving Car Contest. The body is the main part of the car that serves as a protective construction and electrical panels from external factors such as sun, rain and other light other. Besides that the body also functions as a regulator of fluid flow on the outside of the car so that it can affect the performance and characteristics of the car. Making this car body uses glass fiber. Fiberglass is an alloy or mixture of several chemicals (composite materials) that react and harden in a certain time. Composite material testing was carried out to determine the mechanical properties of the composite material produced, for testing the composite material carried out, among others, tensile testing. Based on the static tensile test, the average tensile strength of three layers of woven glass fiber reinforced, random, and talc obtained from the composite test specimen was 39.47 MPa. For 5-layer fiber, the average tensile strength was 51.22 MPa. Keywords: Fiberglass, Testing, material, 2018 KMHE Mobil ini di rancang untuk mengikuti upaya penghematan konsumsi energi atau bahan bakar yang nantinya akan dilombakan diajang Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi 2018. Bodi merupakan bagian utama pada mobil yang berfungsi sebagai pelindung konstruksi dan panel-panel kelistrikan dari faktor eksternal seperti cahaya matahri, hujan dan lain lain. Selain itu bodi juga berfungsi sebagai pengatur aliran fluida pada sisi luar mobil sehingga bisa berpengaruh pada perfoma dan karakteristik mobil. Pembuatan bodi mobil ini menggunakan serat kaca. Fiberglass merupakan bahan paduan atau campuran beberapa bahan kimia (bahan komposit) yang bereaksi dan mengeras dalam waktu tertentu. Pengujian material komposit dilakukan untuk mengetahui sifat mekanik dari material komposit yang dihasilkan, untuk pengujian material komposit yang dilakukan antara lain pengujian tarik. Berdasarkan uji tarik statik diperoleh kekuatan tarik ratarata komposit tiga lapis yang diperkuat serat gelas anyam, acak, dan talk pada spesimen uji komposit tersebut adalah 39,47 MPa. Untuk serat 5 lapis diperoleh kekuatan tarik rata-rata adalah 51,22 MPa. Kata Kunci : Fiberglass, Pengujian, material, KMHE 2018
