Abstract

Steel is the metal most widely used by humans in addition to other metals such as copper, silver, gold and so on. Steel is a combination of various metals, especially iron and other supporting raw materials. JIS S45C steel material is very often used in industry because of its low price. A steel can be damaged, and often only in the form of small/fine cracks. Detection of cracks in steel material is an important activity to ensure the feasibility and safety of steel-based structures. Metal crack detector is a tool that can be used to determine cracks in various types of metals and structures that are formed. This study aims to minimize the risk of failure of metal structures, especially those made of steel S45C by using a metal crack detector. The detection results must be valid and can be accounted for in a mathematical calculation, if needed. The risk of loss caused by a malfunction of components made of S45C steel can be minimized using a metal crack detector. Metal crack detector that are used in detecting metal cracks show results that are not much different from the devices that are already on the market. Analysis of the results of comparison of the detection of steel crack S45C using metal crack detector and ultrasonic crack detector has a ratio of the percentage of cracks that is equal to 5%, with the details of the metal crack detector detecting the crack percentage by 85% and ultrasonic crack detector with the percentage crack value shown by 90%. Keywords: steel, S45C, metal crack detector, ultrasonic crack detector, metal cracks Baja merupakan logam yang paling banyak digunakan manusia selain logam–logam lain seperti tembaga, perak, emas dan sebagainya. Baja merupakan perpaduan berbagai macam logam, terutama besi dan bahan baku penunjang lainnya. Material baja JIS S45C sangat sering digunakan dalam industri karena harganya yang murah. Baja tersebut dapat mengalami kerusakan, dan seringkali hanya berupa retak kecil/halus. Deteksi keretakan pada material baja merupakan kegiatan yang penting untuk memastikan kelayakan dan keselamatan struktur berbahan dasar baja. Metal crack detector adalah alat yang dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui keretakan pada berbagai jenis logam dan struktur yang dibentuknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan meminimalisir risiko kegagalan struktur logam, khususnya yang berbahan baja (steel) S45C dengan menggunakan metal crack detector. Hasil pendeteksian tersebut harus valid dan dapat dipertanngungjawabkan secara perhitungan matematis, apabila diperlukan. Risiko kerugian yang diakibatkan oleh kegagalan fungsi komponen yang terbuat dari baja S45C dapat diminimalisir menggunakan metal crack detector. Metal crack detector yang digunakan dalam mendeteksi keretakan logam menunjukkan hasil yang tidak jauh berbeda dengan alat yang sudah beredar di pasaran. Analisa hasil perbandingan pendeteksian keretakan baja S45C menggunakan metal crack detector dan ultrasonic crack detector memiliki perbandingan persentase keretakan yaitu sebesar 5%, dengan rincian metal crack detector mendeteksi persentase keretakan sebesar 85% dan ultrasonic crack detector dengan nilai persentase keretakan yang ditampilkan sebesar 90%.
