Abstract

Facility layout is a collection of physically arranged elements. Physical elements can use machines, tools, buildings, etc. The unfavorable layout of the warehouses can lead to the flow of less organized materials which can cause many problems such as the misuse of raw material, raw materials that are not well ordered, the warehouse becomes messy and many more problems will occur. PT Hotmal Jaya Perkasa (PT HJP) is one of the companies engaged in the field of metal coating in Indonesia. In the observations made for the placement of raw material products, the warehouse is still not organized or neatly in the preparation of the product, so things like this cause many problems in the timing of the product in a warehouse area and make it difficult for workers, the head of the warehouse in checking the goods will be in production. Other conditions also exist in the placement of products in an area that is less precise, which should be goods that have the highest frequency of delivery and are often in and out closer to the exit. The method used in warehouse management is the shared storage approach where the product that has the highest frequency of delivery and which is often in and out is brought close to the entrance to minimize moving material handling distance. The result of the shared storage approach can be that the proposed layout has a total mileage that is smaller than the initial layout with the improvement of the storage media structure. The total first layout distance is 1656 meters. The total distance of the proposed layout is 960,5 meters. There is a difference in total mileage value of 695,5 meters from the total initial mileage. This means the proposed layout can shorten the distance traveled by the warehouse employees in picking up the goods.
