Abstract

Increased use of gadgets over time. Currently approximately 45 million use the internet, where nine million people use mobile phones to access the internet (Manumpil, 2015). An effective contribution of 23.3% indicates that the intentions of using this gadget contribute to the formation of adolescent intelligence (Cerniglia, et al, 2016). The existence of research that reveals different results from the relationship of gadget addiction with emotional intelligence, making researchers interested to do further research, in this case to know whether there is a relationship with the gadget addiction with the intelligence of junior high school students in the district of Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. The samples of this study were 367 students. By using propotionate stratified random sampling technique. The measuring tool in this study is the scale of gadget addiction and the scale of emotional intelligence using the method of sperman's rho through spss 16.0 for windows. This study shows that there is a significant relationship between gadget addiction with emotional intelligence at junior high school in Mampang Prapatan subdistrict, South Jakarta. Keywords: Gadget Addiction, Emotional Intelligence, Teenager, Junior High School Students Meningkatnya penggunaan gadget dari waktu ke waktu. Saat ini kurang lebih 45 juta menggunakan internet, dimana sembilan juta diantaranya menggunakan ponsel untuk mengakses internet (Manumpil, 2015). Sumbangan efektif sebesar 23,3% menunjukan bahwa intensi penggunaan gadget ini berkontribusi terhadap pembentukan kecerdasan emosi remaja (Cerniglia, dkk, 2016). Adanya penelitian terdahulu yang menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda mengenai hubungan kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi, membuat peneliti tertarik ingin melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut, dalam hal ini untuk mengetahui apakah adanya hubungan kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi remaja khususnya siswa SMP di kecamatan Mampang Prapatan, Jakarta Selatan. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini 367 siswa. Dengan menggunakan teknik propotionate stratified random sampling. Alat ukur dalam penelitian ini adalah skala kecanduan gadget dan skala kecerdasan emosi dengan menggunakan metode korelasi nonparametik dari sperman’s rho melalui spss 16.0 for windows. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan rendah antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di kecamatan Mampang Prapatan, Jakarta Selatan.
