Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship of gadget addiction with emotional intelligence in junior high school students in Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta. The research used quantitative method of survey model. The instruments of data collection using questionnaires. The questionnaire used in the form of Likert scale. There are two variables that are emotionally bound as many as 15 items and free variable addicted gadget as much as 14 items. The subjects of this study were 389 junior high school students in Jagakarsa subdistrict, South Jakarta using Probability Random Sampling technique with data analysis using Product Moment's Pearson correlation. The results showed that: (1) There is a significant correlation between addicted gadget with emotional intelligence Jagakarsa junior high school students in South Jakarta. (2) The resulting Pearson correlation value is -0.215. So the direction of the relationship of gadget addiction with emotional intelligence is negative, can be interpreted the higher the gadget addiction the lower the emotional intelligence, and vice versa. Keywords: gadget addiction, emotional intelligence, junior high school students Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif model survei. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner. Kuesioner yang digunakan berbentuk skala Likert. Terdapat dua variabel yakni variabel terikat kecerdasan emosi sebanyak 15 item dan variabel bebas kecanduan gadget sebanyak 14 item. Subjek penelitian ini sebanyak 389 siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan dengan menggunakan teknik Probability Random Sampling dengan analisis data menggunakan korelasi Product Moment’s Pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi siswa SMP di Kecamatan Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan. (2) Nilai korelasi Pearson yang dihasilkan sebesar -0,215. Sehingga arah hubungan kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi adalah negatif, dapat diartikan semakin tinggi kecanduan gadget maka semakin rendah kecerdasan emosi, dan begitu pula sebaliknya.
