Abstract
The high level of roll wear using conventional cooling causes the roll to wear under the required capacity, which has a direct impact on the high down time in the production process. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of conventional cooling and water spray to roll usage capacity. The research process used experimental method on finishing mills by using 10 sets of randomly selected roll samples, for data retrieval and trials directly in the production area from January 2017 until the completion and then will be calculated the rate of heat transfer in each coolant as well the effect of cooling on the roll usage capacity. The use of water spray is targeted to increase rolling capacity up to 10% of standard capacity, which is for the production size of 10 mm of 315 ton / grooving and the size of 13 mm is 320 ton / grooving. The results showed significant difference of heat transfer rate between conventional cooling and water spray usage, and the effect on roll usage capacity, where the use of water spray can increase roll capacity exceeding 10% of standard capacity. Tingginya tingkat keausan roll dengan menggunakan pendingin konvensional mengakibatkan roll mengalami keausan dibawah kapasitas yang seharusnya, hal ini berdampak langung terhadap tingginya down time pada proses produksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan pendingin konvensional dan water spray terhadap kapasitas pemakain roll. Proses penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimental pada finishing mills dengan menggunakan 10 set sampel roll yang dipilih secara acak, untuk pengambilan data dan uji coba dilakukan langsung pada area produksi mulai Januari 2017 sampai dengan selesai dan selanjutnya akan dilakukan perhitungan laju perpindahan panas pada masingmasing pendingin serta pengaruh pendinginan terhadap kapasitas pemakaian roll. Dalam penggunaan water spray ditargetkan dapat meningkatkan kapasitas pemakaian roll hingga 10% dari kapasitas standar, dimana untuk ukuran produksi 10 mm sebesar 315 ton/grooving dan ukuran 13 mm sebesar 320 ton/grooving. Hasil penelitian menunjukan perbedaan laju perpindahan panas yang cukup signifikan antara penggunaan pendingin konvensional dan water spray, serta pengaruh terhadap kapasitas pemakaian roll, dimana penggunaan water spray dapat meningkatkan kapasitas pemakaian roll melebihi 10% dari kapasitas standar.
