Abstract

Alumunium alloy AA6061 is widely applied in ship deck structural components due to its high strength-to-weight ratio. However, exposure to chloride-rich marine environments can trigger localized corrosion that potentially compromises material reliability. The use of commercial coatings based on synthetic chemicals often poses negative impacts on the ecosystem, necessitating innovative green inhibitors derived from natural materials, such as turmeric rhizome extract (Curcuma longa). This study aims to analyze the corrosion rate of Alumunium AA6061 in natural seawater from Ancol Beach (pH 8.3) and evaluate the protective performance of a Butyl Acrylate coating system synthesized via UV photopolymerization (DMPP) integrated with turmeric extract as a green inhibitor. Electrochemical testing was performed using the Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP) technique with a CorrTest CS350 potentiostat to measure corrosion parameters, complemented by surface morphology observations using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) in Concentric Backscattered (CBS) mode.
