Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of the pretend play method within the ReggioEmilia approach on early childhood social and emotional skills. A quasiexperimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest was applied to 15children aged 3–4 years. Data were collected using the Preschool andKindergarten Behavior Scales (PKBS) completed by two raters. The interventionwas conducted over four weeks through pretend play activities designedaccording to Reggio Emilia principles. The results indicated a significant improvement in social skills, especially in children’s empathy and self-confidenceand a reduction in problem behaviors, including pushing peers, social withdrawal, and excessive anxiety. These findings suggest that the pretend play method withinthe Reggio Emilia approach is effective in supporting early childhood social skillsand emotional skills development. Keyword : pretend play, Reggio Emilia, social-emotional skills, early childhood Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pretend play dalampembelajaran dengan pendekatan Reggio Emilia terhadap keterampilan sosial emosional anak usia dini. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimendengan desain one-group pretest–posttest terhadap 15 anak usia 3–4 tahun. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan Preschool and Kindergarten BehaviorScales (PKBS) yang diisi oleh dua orang rater. Intervensi dilakukan selama empat minggu melalui kegiatan pretend play yang dirancang sesuai prinsip ReggioEmilia. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan padaaspek keterampilan sosial seperti empati dan kepercayaan diri pada anak sertapenurunan pada perilaku bermasalah seperti mendorong teman, menarik diri dari interaksi sosial serta kecemasan berlebih dalam aspek problem behavior. Temuanini menunjukkan bahwa metode pretend play dalam pendekatan Reggio Emiliaefektif dalam mendukung keterampilan sosial dan keterampilan emosional anakusia dini.
