Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between fear of failure and academic procrastination among final-year students who are working on their theses in Jakarta. This study is motivated by the phenomenon of delayed study completion in various higher education institutions in DKI Jakarta, as indicated by the average length of study of undergraduate students exceeding the ideal study period. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed in this study. The research participants consisted of 149 final-year students in Jakarta who were working on their theses and had extended their thesis completion period at least once, selected using a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method. The research instruments used were the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS) and the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation analysis. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between fear of failure and academic procrastination (r = 0.429; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that higher levels of fear of failure are associated with a greater tendency to engage in academic procrastination during the thesis completion process. Keywords: fear of failure, academic procrastination, final-year students, thesis Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara fear of failure dengan prokrastinasi akademik pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang sedang mengerjakan skripsi di Jakarta. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena keterlambatan penyelesaian studi di berbagai perguruan tinggi di DKI Jakarta, yang ditunjukkan oleh rata-rata masa studi mahasiswa program sarjana yang melebihi masa studi ideal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 149 mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Jakarta yang sedang mengerjakan skripsi dan telah melakukan perpanjangan masa pengerjaan skripsi minimal satu kali, yang diperoleh melalui teknik nonprobability sampling dengan metode purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah Academic Procrastination Scale (APS) dan Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI). Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah korelasi Spearman’s rho. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif dan signifikan antara fear of failure dengan prokrastinasi akademik (r = 0,429; p < 0,05). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat fear of failure yang dimiliki mahasiswa, maka semakin tinggi pula kecenderungan mereka untuk melakukan prokrastinasi akademik dalam penyusunan skripsi.
