Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between father presence and romantic relationships among emerging adult women. The research is grounded in the understanding that fathers play an essential emotional and psychological role in shaping daughters’ relational patterns, sense of security, and interpersonal functioning in adulthood. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with 155 female participants aged 18–30, who resides in Indonesia. The instruments used were the Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ) and the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS). Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation due to non-normal distribution. The results showed a significant positive relationship between father presence and romantic relationships (r = 0.289, p < 0.001). This indicates that higher levels of father presence— both physically and emotionally—are associated with better romantic relationship quality among emerging adult women. Further analysis revealed that the dimension of feeling about the father significantly correlated with romantic relationships, whereas beliefs about the father did not show a significant relationship. Overall, the findings highlight that father presence serves as an important factor contributing to healthier and more secure romantic relationships in emerging adulthood. Keywords: father presence, romantic relationships, emerging adulthood, daughters, relationship satisfaction Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kehadiran ayah (father presence) dan hubungan romantis pada perempuan dewasa awal. Latar belakang penelitian didasarkan pada peran penting ayah sebagai figur emosional dan psikologis yang berkontribusi terhadap pembentukan pola relasi, rasa aman, dan kualitas hubungan interpersonal anak perempuan di masa dewasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Partisipan berjumlah 155 perempuan dewasa awal berusia 18–30 tahun yang berdomisili di Indonesia. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ) dan Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman’s Rho karena data tidak berdistribusi normal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara father presence dan hubungan romantis (r = 0,289; p < 0,001). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat kehadiran ayah, baik secara fisik maupun emosional, semakin baik kualitas hubungan romantis yang dimiliki perempuan dewasa awal. Analisis antar dimensi menunjukkan bahwa feeling about the father berhubungan signifikan dengan hubungan romantis, sedangkan beliefs about the father tidak menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa father presence berperan sebagai faktor penting yang berkontribusi terhadap pembentukan hubungan romantis yang lebih sehat pada perempuan dewasa awal.
