Abstract

Authoritarian leadership positions the leader as the central authority in decision making, group control, and the direction of collective actions without involving member participation. In the film 13 Bombs in Jakarta, this leadership style is represented through the antagonist character Arok, who is portrayed as dominant, rigid, and demanding absolute obedience from the radical group he leads. This study aims to analyze the representation of Arok’s authoritarian leadership in the film 13 Bombs in Jakarta. The research focuses on the representation of signs and meanings in film using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, particularly the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. A qualitative descriptive method is employed, with data collected through observation and documentation of selected scenes that depict Arok’s actions, dialogues, gestures, and expressions. The findings indicate that Arok’s leadership is constructed through clear and strict instructions, unilateral decision making, one-way communication, total control over group members, the use of sanctions to enforce obedience, and an emphasis on efficiency in achieving group objectives. At the mythic level, Arok represents an extreme form of leadership that legitimizes domination, fear, and violence as acceptable strategies within a radical organization. Keywords: Authoritarian Leadership, Character, Film, Roland Barthes’ Semiotics Kepemimpinan otoriter menempatkan pemimpin sebagai pusat kekuasaan dalam pengambilan keputusan, pengendalian kelompok, dan penentuan arah tindakan tanpa melibatkan partisipasi anggota. Dalam film 13 Bom di Jakarta, gaya kepemimpinan ini direpresentasikan melalui karakter antagonis Arok yang digambarkan dominan, tegas, dan menuntut kepatuhan mutlak dari kelompok radikal yang dipimpinnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi gaya kepemimpinan otoriter karakter Arok dalam film 13 Bom di Jakarta. Penelitian ini berfokus pada representasi tanda dan makna dalam film dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes yang meliputi analisis denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan dokumentasi terhadap potongan adegan yang menampilkan tindakan, dialog, gestur, dan ekspresi karakter Arok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan Arok dikonstruksi melalui pemberian instruksi yang jelas dan kaku, pengambilan keputusan secara sepihak, komunikasi satu arah, kontrol penuh terhadap anggota kelompok, penerapan sanksi untuk menegakkan kepatuhan, serta penekanan pada efisiensi dalam mencapai tujuan kelompok. Pada level mitos, kepemimpinan Arok merepresentasikan legitimasi kekuasaan ekstrem yang menormalkan dominasi, ketakutan, dan kekerasan sebagai strategi kepemimpinan dalam organisasi radikal.
