Abstract

Coke is a critical material in the hot metal production process using the Blast Furnace method, where high moisture content in coke can reduce process efficiency and increase production cost. This research aims to analyze the factors affecting the moisture content in coke during the quenching process by applying the Six Sigma approach with the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology. Data was collected from a steel plant in Cilegon, Banten, and analyzed using Minitab software. The results show that quenching time, spraying time, and the use of additional nozzles significantly affect the moisture content in coke (P-value < 0.05), while operator and worker shift factors have no significant effect. Through a Design of Experiment (DoE), the optimal quenching conditions were determined to be 90 seconds of quenching time, 50 seconds of spraying time, and the use of additional nozzles. The improvement implementation resulted in a reduction of coke moisture content and improve sigma level from 3.31σ to 4.04σ. This study demonstrates that the Six Sigma approach is effective in reducing coke moisture and improving the stability and efficiency of the production process in the steel industry. Keywords: Coke, Moisture Content, Quenching, Six Sigma, DMAIC, Design of Experiment Kokas adalah salah satu material penting dalam proses pembuatan besi cair dengan menggunakan metode Blast Furnace, di mana kadar air yang tinggi dalam kokas dapat menurunkan efisiensi proses dan meningkatkan biaya produksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kadar air dalam kokas selama proses pendinginan (quenching) dengan menggunakan pendekatan Six Sigma metode DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). Data diperoleh dari pabrik baja di Cilegon, Banten dan dianalisis menggunakan Minitab. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor quenching time, spraying time, dan penggunaan nozzle tambahan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kadar air dalam kokas (P-value < 0.05), sedangkan faktor operator dan shift kerja tidak berpengaruh signifikan. Melalui eksperimen Design of Experiment (DoE), diperoleh kombinasi optimal proses pendinginan, yaitu quenching time 90 detik, spraying time 50 detik, dan penggunaan nozzle tambahan. Implementasi perbaikan menghasilkan penurunan kadar air dan peningkatan level sigma dari 3.31σ menjadi 4.04σ. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan Six Sigma efektif dalam menurunkan kadar air kokas serta meningkatkan stabilitas dan efisiensi proses produksi di industri baja.
