Abstract

In the contemporary era, characterized by accelerated advancements in network infrastructure, the imperative for expeditious and secure network access has become paramount. Virtual Pr ivate Network (VPN) technology can be a viable solution for ensuring secure and private network access from a public network by establishing an encrypted connection. A number of tunneling protocols exist that can be utilized, including Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) and OpenVPN (OVPN), on MikroTik devices. The objective of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis and implementation of two distinct types of VPN protocols. The evaluation encompassed a meticulous examination of the performance of these protocols in terms of speed, latency, stabilization, and security level. This assessment was facilitated by the rigorous testing of various parameters, including throughput (data transfer speed), latency (delay time), and packet loss. Furthermore, the encryption and compatibility of each protocol is analyzed in various network scenarios, where users will observe the parameters on both protocols to determine the quality during peak and off-peak hours. Keywords: VPN, L2TP, OVPN, MikroTik, Quality of Service. Semakin pesatnya perkebangan jaringan saat ini, kebutuhan akan akses jaringan cepat dan aman menjadi sangat penting. Virtual Private Network (VPN) dapat menjadi salah satu pilihan terkait kebutuhan akses jaringan private (lokal) dari jaringan publik dengan cara membuat koneksi yang terenkripsi. Beberapa tunneling yang dapat digunakan diantaranya Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) dan OpenVPN (OVPN), pada perangkat MikroTik. Dalam peneliatan ini, dilakukan perbandingan dan implemetasi pada 2 jenis VPN tersebut dengan tujuan menganalisa kinerja kedua protokol dalam aspek kecepatan, latensi, stabilisasi, dan tingkat keamanan dengan menggunakan pengujian berbagai parameter, seperti throughput (kecepatan transfer data), latency (waktu tunda), dan packet loss. Selain itu, dilakukan analisis enkripsi dan kompatibilitas masing-masing protokol dalam berbagai skenario jaringan, dimana pengguna akan mengamati paramater pada kedua protokol untuk mengetahui kualitas pada saat jam ramai dan jam sepi.
