Abstract
This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of Wi-Fi networks using WPA2 and WPA3 security protocols based on two main parameters: delay and jitter. As technology advances and the demand for higher network security increases, WPA3 has been introduced as the successor to WPA2. However, the enhanced security is assumed to impact network performance. The tests were conducted in a real environment using an access point and client device across three traffic scenarios: light, moderate, and heavy. Data was captured using Wireshark in .pcap format and analyzed to obtain delay and jitter values for each configuration. The results showed that WPA3 generally produced slightly higher delay and jitter values compared to WPA2 in all traffic conditions. Nevertheless, the differences remained within acceptable network performance thresholds. These findings provide valuable insights for network administrators when considering the tradeoff between security and performance in selecting wireless network protocols. Keywords: WPA2, WPA3, Wi-Fi, Delay, Jitter, Wireshark Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan membandingkan performa jaringan Wi-Fi yang menggunakan protokol keamanan WPA2 dan WPA3 berdasarkan dua parameter utama, yaitu delay dan jitter. Seiring berkembangnya teknologi dan kebutuhan akan keamanan jaringan yang lebih tinggi, protokol WPA3 hadir sebagai penerus WPA2. Namun, peningkatan tingkat keamanan ini dikhawatirkan berdampak pada penurunan performa jaringan. Pengujian dilakukan dalam lingkungan nyata menggunakan access point dan perangkat klien dengan tiga skenario trafik: ringan, sedang, dan berat. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan Wireshark dalam format file .pcap dan dianalisis untuk memperoleh nilai delay dan jitter dari masing-masing konfigurasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa WPA3 cenderung memiliki nilai delay dan jitter yang sedikit lebih tinggi dibandingkan WPA2 pada semua skenario trafik. Meskipun demikian, perbedaan yang ditemukan masih berada dalam batas toleransi performa jaringan. Temuan ini memberikan informasi penting bagi administrator jaringan dalam mempertimbangkan trade-off antara keamanan dan performa saat memilih protokol jaringan nirkabel.
