Abstract

This paper presents an implementation case study OpenBTS in oil palm plantations, PT XYZ. The work is focused on applied research and development of a cost effective telecommunication system in order to provide mobile communications in remote areas far from the Base Tranceiver Station(BTS) of GSM networks. Rarely operators who want to set up base stations because the cost is not comparable to the revenue received from the mobile phone users in the area. This system aims to test appropriate technologies so that difficult to communicate between users in the area can be resolved. Development of this technology using the OpenBTS project that is an effort to construct an open-source Unix application that uses the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) to present a GSM air interface ("Um") to standard GSM handsets and uses the Asterisk software PBX to connect calls. Keywords : OpenBTS, USRP, low-cost communication, rural area network, mobile telephony Jurnal ini menyajikan sebuah studi kasus implementasi OpenBTS di perkebunan kelapa sawit, PT XYZ. Karya ini difokuskan pada penelitian terapan dan pengembangan biaya sistem telekomunikasi yang efektif untuk memberikan komunikasi seluler di daerah terpencil yang jauh dari Base Transceiver Station(BTS) jaringan GSM. Jarang operator yang ingin mendirikan BTS karena biaya yang dikeluarkan tidak sebanding dengan pendapatan yang diterima dari pengguna telepon seluler di area tersebut. Sistem ini bertujuan untuk menguji teknologi yang tepat sehingga kesulitan komunikasi antar pengguna di area tersebut bisa diselesaikan. Pengembangan teknologi ini menggunakan proyek OpenBTS yang merupakan upaya untuk membangun aplikasi Unix open-source yang menggunakan Universal Software Radio Peripheral(USRP) untuk menyajikan air interface GSM(“Um”) ke handset GSM standar dan menggunakan software Asterisk PBX untuk menghubungkan panggilan telepon.
