Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between father involvement and emotional regulation in young adults in Jakarta. The method used in this study is a quantitative design with a correlational approach. The sampling technique used in this study is non-probability sampling, obtaining 304 young adult respondents in the Jakarta area. The measurement tools used in this study were the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure emotional regulation and the Father Involvement Scale (FIS). Data were analyzed using normality tests, Spearman's correlation tests, and non-parametric difference tests (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis). The results of the study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between Father Involvement and the Cognitive Reappraisal emotion regulation strategy with positive results, but there is no relationship with the Expressive Suppression emotion regulation strategy, meaning that the higher the father's involvement, the higher the regulation that a person will have. In the inter-dimensional test, all dimensions of Father Involvement were related to Cognitive Reappraisal, the expressive dimension was in the low relationship category, the instrumental dimension was in the moderate category, and the mentoring dimension was in the low category. These findings indicate that father involvement is related to emotional regulation in early adulthood in Jakarta, particularly in the instrumental dimension. Therefore, it is hoped that fathers will be sufficiently involved in their children's daily lives and practical activities. Keywords: Father Involvement, Emotion Regulation through Cognitive Appraisal, Emotion Regulation through Expressive Suppression, Early Adulthood Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara Father Involvement dengan regulasi emosi pada dewasa awal di Jakarta. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah desain kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasional. Teknik sampling yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu non-probability sampling dengan memperoleh 304 responden dewasa awal yang berada pada wilayah Jakarta. Alat ukur yang digunakan pada penelitian kali ini adalah Emotion Regulation Questionnare (ERQ) untuk mengukur regulasi emosi, dan Father Involvement Scale (FIS). Data dianalisis dengan uji normalitas, uji uji korelasi Spearman, dan uji beda non-parametrik (Mann-Witney U dan Kruskal-Wallis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara Father Involvement terhadap strategi regulasi emosi Cognitive Reappraisal dengan hasil positif, namun tidak terdapat hubungan pada strategi regulasi emosi Expressive Suppression, yang berarti semakin tinggi keterlibatan ayah, maka akan semakin tinggi juga regulasi yang akan dimiliki oleh seseorang. Pada uji antar dimensi seluruh dimensi Father Involvement berhubungan dengan Cognitive Reappraisal, dimensi expressive dengan kategori hubungan rendah, instrumental juga masuk kedalam kategori sedang, dan mentoring masuk kedalam kategori rendah. Hasil temuan ini terlihat bahwa keterlibatan ayah berhubungan dengan regulasi emosi pada dewasa awal di Jakarta, terlebih pada dimensi instrumental. Sehingga, diharapkan seorang ayah cukup terlibat didalam keseharian dan kegiatan aktivitas praktis anak.
