Abstract

The maintenance of ornamental plants such as golden pothos requires regular watering, lighting, and humidity monitoring to ensure optimal growth. However, the busy lifestyles of urban communities often hinder manual plant care. To address this issue, this study developed an Android-based Smart Gardening system integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, enabling remote and real-time monitoring and control of plants. The system was designed using an ESP32 microcontroller connected to a temperature and humidity sensor (DHT22), soil moisture sensor, and light sensor (LDR). Sensor data is transmitted to the Firebase cloud service and displayed through an Android application. The application features environmental condition monitoring as well as control of a water pump and UV lamp, which can operate automatically based on sensor thresholds or be manually controlled by the user. Testing was conducted by applying various environmental conditions, such as changes in soil moisture and light intensity, to measure sensor accuracy and system responsiveness. The results show that the system operates accurately. Sensors provide readings consistent with reference measurements, the water pump activates when soil moisture falls below the threshold, and the UV lamp turns on when light intensity is low. The system’s success is demonstrated by its ability to present consistent real-time data, control devices without significant delay, and facilitate plant care without the user’s physical presence. Therefore, the Smart Gardening system is effective in improving the efficiency and practicality of ornamental plant maintenance, particularly for users with limited time availability. Perawatan tanaman hias seperti sirih gading membutuhkan penyiraman, pencahayaan, dan pemantauan kelembapan secara rutin agar pertumbuhannya optimal. Namun, aktivitas dan kesibukan masyarakat perkotaan sering menjadi kendala dalam melakukan perawatan secara manual. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini mengembangkan sistem Smart Gardening berbasis Android yang terintegrasi dengan teknologi Internet of Things (IoT), sehingga pemantauan dan pengendalian tanaman dapat dilakukan secara jarak jauh dan real-time. Sistem dirancang menggunakan mikrokontroler ESP32 yang terhubung dengan sensor suhu dan kelembapan udara (DHT22), sensor kelembapan tanah, serta sensor cahaya (LDR). Data dari sensor dikirim ke layanan cloud Firebase dan ditampilkan pada aplikasi Android. Aplikasi ini dilengkapi fitur pemantauan kondisi lingkungan serta kontrol pompa air dan lampu UV yang dapat beroperasi secara otomatis berdasarkan ambang batas sensor maupun secara manual oleh pengguna. Pengujian dilakukan dengan memberikan variasi kondisi lingkungan, seperti perubahan kelembapan tanah dan intensitas cahaya, untuk mengukur akurasi sensor dan respons sistem. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa sistem mampu bekerja dengan baik.Sensor memberikan data yang sesuai dengan pengukuran pembanding, pompa air menyala saat kelembapan tanah berada di bawah ambang batas, dan lampu UV aktif ketika intensitas cahaya rendah. Keberhasilan alat ditunjukkan oleh kemampuannya menampilkan data secara konsisten, mengontrol perangkat tanpa jeda signifikan, serta mempermudah perawatan tanaman tanpa memerlukan kehadiran langsung pengguna. Dengan demikian, sistem Smart Gardening ini efektif dalam meningkatkan efisiensi dan kepraktisan perawatan tanaman hias, terutama bagi pengguna dengan keterbatasan waktu.
