Abstract

The Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP) was developed as an alternative transport protocol that combines UDP's low-latency characteristics with congestion control mechanisms similar to those found in TCP. This study presents a comparative analysis of two DCCP congestion control identifiers, CCID 2 and CCID 3, through simulations conducted in a wired network environment using a dumbbell topology. The research aims to evaluate their performance when interacting with TCP traffic under various sizes and queuing models, including Drop Tail and RED. The evaluation is based on quality of service (QoS) parameters such as throughput, delay, jitter, packet loss, and congestion window behavior. The findings indicate that CCID 3 performs better under small sizes, offering higher throughput and stable jitter, while CCID 2 demonstrates more consistent performance with larger s. Each CCID presents distinct weaknesses depending on network conditions. This study highlights the importance of selecting an appropriate transport protocol that aligns with application requirements and network characteristics, particularly in real-time communication scenarios. Keywords: DCCP, CCID2, CCID3, TCP, UDP.
