Abstract

Children with visual impairments often face limitations in accessing storybooks that suit their needs. To support learning and entertainment for these children, media is needed that is inclusive, interesting and educational. This research aims to design story books with embossed illustrations combined with Braille letters, thereby enabling blind children to read, feel and understand stories through touch. The research methods used include literature studies, observations, interviews, and product trials with blind children and their educators. The design process involves several stages, namely creating a story concept, designing embossed illustrations, and integrating text in Braille. The resulting storybook has a simple story structure, embossed illustrations depicting the characters and setting of the story, and Braille text to support the narrative. The research results show that this story book is able to help blind children develop their imagination, ability to read Braille, and overall understanding of the story. In addition, the combination of embossed illustrations and Braille text increases children's interest and interaction with the book. In conclusion, designing storybooks with embossed illustrations and Braille can be an innovative solution for creating inclusive learning media for children with visual impairments. It is hoped that this research can encourage the development of similar media in the future to support inclusive education in Indonesia. Anak penyandang disabilitas tunanetra sering menghadapi keterbatasan dalam mengakses buku cerita yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka. Untuk mendukung pembelajaran dan hiburan bagi anak-anak ini, diperlukan media yang inklusif, menarik, dan mendidik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang buku cerita dengan ilustrasi timbul yang dikombinasikan dengan huruf Braille, sehingga memungkinkan anak tunanetra untuk membaca, merasakan, dan memahami cerita melalui sentuhan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan meliputi studi literatur, observasi, wawancara, serta uji coba produk dengan anak penyandang tunanetra dan pendidik mereka. Proses perancangan melibatkan beberapa tahap, yaitu pembuatan konsep cerita, desain ilustrasi timbul, dan pengintegrasian teks dalam huruf Braille. Buku cerita yang dihasilkan memiliki struktur cerita yang sederhana, ilustrasi timbul yang menggambarkan karakter dan latar cerita, serta teks Braille untuk mendukung narasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku cerita ini mampu membantu anak tunanetra dalam mengembangkan imajinasi, kemampuan membaca Braille, dan pemahaman cerita secara keseluruhan. Selain itu, kombinasi ilustrasi timbul dan teks Braille meningkatkan daya tarik dan interaksi anak dengan buku tersebut. Kesimpulannya, perancangan buku cerita dengan ilustrasi timbul dan Braille ini dapat menjadi solusi inovatif untuk menciptakan media pembelajaran yang inklusif bagi anak penyandang disabilitas tunanetra. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat mendorong pengembangan media serupa di masa depan untuk mendukung pendidikan inklusif di Indonesia.
