Abstract
Resilience refers to an individual's capacity to adapt and respond healthily when facing adversity. This study aims to describe the resilience of single mothers with multiple roles due to the death of their spouse, particularly those with underage children. A phenomenological approach was employed, involving four subjects selected through purposive sampling. Four participants were included in the study, selected based on criteria as Data were collected through in-depth interviews using a semi-structured format, as well as observations during the interview process. Data validity was tested through source triangulation by involving two significant others for each subject. The results of the study show differences in the resilience dynamics among the four subjects. Two subjects, NY and RR, exhibited resilience, while SM and EK were still in the process of developing their resilience. NY demonstrated the ability to manage life’s burdens and overcome financial difficulties despite facing challenges. RR was able to cope with post-loss trauma through measured steps and psychological support. SM was hindered by family conflicts affecting her emotional balance, while EK struggled with emotional feelings and remained open to social support. The resilience of these single mothers was influenced by various internal and external factors that supported their adaptation process. Keywords: Death of Spouse, Single Mother, Resilience, Single Mothers with Underage Children, Multiple Roles Resiliensi adalah kapasitas individu untuk beradaptasi dan merespons secara sehat ketika menghadapi kesulitan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan resiliensi ibu tunggal yang memiliki multiperan karena pasangan meninggal dunia, khususnya yang memiliki anak di bawah umur. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah fenomenologi, dengan empat subjek yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview) dengan format semiterstruktur, serta observasi selama proses wawancara. Validitas data diuji melalui triangulasi sumber dengan melibatkan dua significant other untuk setiap subjek. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan dinamika resiliensi di antara keempat subjek. Dua subjek, yaitu NY dan RR, menunjukkan resiliensi, sementara SM dan EK masih dalam proses pengembangan resiliensinya. NY menunjukkan kemampuan untuk mengelola beban hidup dan mengatasi kesulitan finansial meskipun menghadapi tantangan. RR mampu mengatasi trauma pasca-kehilangan melalui langkah-langkah yang terukur dan dukungan psikologis. SM terkendala oleh konflik keluarga yang mempengaruhi keseimbangan emosionalnya, sementara EK kesulitan menghadapi perasaan emosional dan terbuka terhadap dukungan sosial. Resiliensi para ibu tunggal ini dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor internal dan eksternal yang mendukung proses adaptasi mereka.
