Abstract

In companies engaged in aircraft maintenance, the use of nondestructive tests in the form of eddy current inspection is widely in demand because of its ability to inspect cracks on the surface of the material using high frequency eddy current and on the inside of the material using low frequency eddy current. However, specifically for Fe material, inspection using eddy current is only carried out on the surface using high frequency eddy current because the magnetic properties of Fe material interfere with the inspection process on the underside of the surface using low frequency eddy current. The solution offered in this study is to add magnetic treatment to the Fe material so that cracks on the underside of the surface can be inspected using low frequency eddy current. The stages carried out include: 1) determining the frequency in the low frequency eddy current range, 2) adding magnetic treatment to the Fe material by magnetizing and demagnetizing, 3) inspecting cracks on the inside of the Fe material surface using low frequency eddy current. The results of the low frequency eddy current inspection on Fe material after being given magnetic treatment show that the addition of magnetization to the material results in a smaller crack signal so that its effectiveness decreases, while the addition of demagnetization to the material results in a larger crack signal so that its effectiveness increases. Pada perusahaan-perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang maintenance pesawat, penggunaan nondestructive test berupa eddy current inspection banyak diminati karena kemampuannya dalam menginspeksi retak pada permukaan material menggunakan eddy current high frequency dan pada bagian dalam material menggunakan eddy current low frequency. Namun, khusus untuk material Fe, inspeksi menggunakan eddy current hanya dilakukan pada permukannya saja menggunakan high frequency eddy current karena sifat magnet material Fe mengganggu proses inspeksi pada bagian bawah permukaan menggunakan eddy current low frequency. Solusi yang ditawarkan pada penelitian ini adalah dengan menambahkan perlakuan magnet pada material Fe agar retak pada bagian bawah permukaan dapat diinspeksi menggunakan eddy current low frequency. Adapun tahapan yang dilakukan antara lain: 1) menentukan frequency dalam rentang eddy current low frequency, 2) menambahkan perlakuan magnet pada material Fe dengan cara megnetisasi dan demagnetisasi, 3) menginspeksi retak pada bagian dalam permukaan material Fe menggunakan eddy current low frequency. Hasil dari inspeksi eddy current low frequency pada material Fe setelah diberikan perlakuan magnet menunjukkan bahwa penambahan magnetisasi pada material mengakibatkan sinyal retak semakin kecil sehingga efektifitasnya menurun,sedangkan pada penambahan demagnetisasi pada material mengakibatkan sinyal retak semakin besar sehingga efektifitasnya meningkat.
