Abstract
Onshore and offshore oil and gas mining activities have piping systems to drain fluids, using 316L material. This pipe is corroded because it is submerged in a corrosive environment, namely sea water, which causes damage to the surface and structure of the pipe. This corrosion can be prevented by coating inhibitors. However, most inhibitors are environmentally harmful, expensive and toxic. Using environmentally friendly inhibitors offers an effective approach to address pipeline corrosion, as attention increasingly focuses on economical and environmentally friendly options. This study investigated the application of domestic chicken eggshell waste as a corrosion inhibitor. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness, morphology, and chemical properties of 316L stainless steel when treated with this eggshell-based inhibitor. The study employed several techniques, including EPD coating, potentiodynamic polarization, SEM, and Raman spectroscopy in seawater. The results showed that the lowest corrosion rate was observed in the specimen treated with 14g inhibitor concentration, with a value of 4,4292x10-4 mmpy and 97,1 % efficiency. SEM analysis revealed that the sample without inhibitor showed many small voids on its surface. In contrast, the sample with 14g inhibitor concentration showed a reduction of these voids and a darker surface appearance due to the presence of an adsorbed layer of eggshell powder. Raman spectroscopy of the samples treated with 14 grams of eggshell powder showed that the end products of corrosion had disappeared, but there were still features of -FeOOH and their intensity was greatly reduced. This indicates that the use of eggshell coating has effectively prevented corrosion. Keywords: Pipe, Inhibitor, Stainless Steel 316L, EPD, Electrochemical, SEM, Raman Spectroscopy Kegiatan penambangan minyak bumi dan gas bumi di darat dan di lepas pantai terdapat sistem perpipaan untuk mengalirkan fluida, menggunakan material 316L. Pipa ini mengalami korosi karena terendam pada lingkungan korosif yaitu air laut yang menyebabkan kerusakan permukaan maupun struktur dari pipa. Korosi ini dapat dicegah dengan pelapisan inhibitor. Namun, sebagian besar inhibitor mempunyai efek berbahaya terhadap lingkungan, mahal dan beracun. Menggunakan inhibitor ramah lingkungan menawarkan pendekatan yang efektif untuk mengatasi korosi pipa, karena perhatian semakin berfokus pada pilihan yang ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan. Penelitian ini menyelidiki penerapan limbah dari cangkang telur ayam domestik sebagai inhibitor korosi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas, morfologi, dan sifat kimia dari baja tahan karat 316L ketika diperlakukan dengan inhibitor berbasis cangkang telur ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa teknik, termasuk pelapisan EPD, polarisasi potensiodinamik, SEM, dan spektroskopi Raman di air laut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa laju korosi terendah diamati pada spesimen yang diperlakukan dengan konsentrasi inhibitor 14g, dengan nilai 4,4292x10-4 mmpy dan efisiensi 97,1 %. Analisis SEM mengungkapkan bahwa sampel tanpa inhibitor menunjukkan banyak rongga kecil di permukaannya. Sebaliknya, sampel dengan konsentrasi inhibitor 14g menunjukkan pengurangan rongga ini dan penampilan permukaan yang lebih gelap karena adanya lapisan bubuk cangkang telur yang teradsorpsi. Spektroskopi Raman dari sampel yang diperlakukan dengan 14 gram bubuk cangkang telur menunjukkan bahwa produk akhir dari korosi telah menghilang, tetapi masih ada fitur -FeOOH dan intensitasnya sangat berkurang drastis.
