Abstract
Currently, natural materials such as corn silk have not received much attention in the industry, especially their use as materials. Nonetheless, in recent years, researchers have begun to turn their attention to more environmentally friendly composite materials. Therefore, it is important to carry out an analysis of the potential use of corn fiber in making composites, especially when combined with vinyl-ester and epoxy matrices. Thisresearch aimsto calculate the maximum shear stress and maximum shear strain of corn fiber composites with vinyl-ester and epoxy matrices by carrying out torsion tests on several different volume fractions. This research method is a quantitative method where this research will use volume fractions of 25%, 30%, 35% and 40% corn fiber with a vinyl-ester and epoxy matrix. The composite was molded using a standard E143 mold then dried for 2 days, then a torsion testing process was carried out. The test results showed that the epoxy resin and vinyl-ester composite experienced a decrease in shear stress and maximum shear strain at a fiber volume fraction of 40% and the maximum shear stress and shear strain are at 35% fiber volume fraction. The maximum shear stress and shear strain in epoxy resin are 25.97 MPa and 0.81, while the maximum shear stress and shear strain in vinyl-ester resin are 30.24 and 0.94. Keywords: Composite, corn fiber, vinyl-ester, epoxy, torsion test Sekarang ini, material alami seperti rambut jagung belum mendapatkan banyak perhatian di industri, terutama penggunaannya sebagai material.
